SEGA's US and European arms have finally announced what many thought was an obvious move for the company - Virtua Tennis is set to arrive on Wii! Considering SEGA Superstar Tennis was most popular on Nintendo's home console thanks to the motion controls sending gamers into a frenzy, believing they were really in the game, Virtua Tennis seemed like an automatic shoe-in. However, the latest edition was originally revealed as being for Nintendo's competitors' platforms.
Thankfully now, though, Virtua Tennis 2009 will come to Wii in May 2009, bringing with it all the features and real-life players that have helped to make the series the most popular tennis title around. Gamers will be able to step right into the shoes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams, Andy Murray and Ana Ivanovic, amongst many others. The plan is for there to be more than forty different court styles that can be played on in single- or multi-player modes. In addition there are to be online modes to add extra depth.
"The Virtua Tennis series is perfect for the Wii platform. SEGA is excited to be able to bring this uniquely interactive experience to Wii. The multiplayer Court Games in particular will be a feature that family and friends can enjoy together."
- Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America.
The question that has not been answered is if the Wii MotionPlus device will be utilised or not.
