Dead Space Wii - Ground Up Prequel on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

EA have expanded on the original announcement of Dead Space for Wii, as an all new chapter.

When the publisher made the reveal earlier this month, it was uncertain whether it would be an all-new game or a port of the high-definition original. Today the game has received a subtitle "Extraction" and details on the story.

The game will be a prequel revealing the events leading up to Isaac Clarke’s mission on the USG Ishimura, introducing an exclusive new heroine, characters, weaponry and co-operative multiplayer gameplay. Extraction marries the "innovative motion controls of the Wii Remote with a frenetic first person perspective" to create an all new side to the story, and a completely ground-up title for Wii.

We could not be more excited to extend Dead Space into an experience exclusive to the Wii. Nintendo has a wonderful history in the horror genre and we are thrilled to build on that tradition with Dead Space Extraction. As we were developing Dead Space, we realized that there was so much of the story going untold. Dead Space Extraction tells that story with all of the intensity, blood and gore that fans would expect.

Dead Space Extraction is an EA Redwood Shores title, and is due for release in Autumn 2009.

Excellent! Glad they've gone with an all new game rather than just a retread.

I also understand that it is going to be on-rails, at least in parts, comparable to HotD or RE: Umbrella Chronicles (a game I love). The first trailer looks good.

When I was watching the trailer all I was thinking was "I hope it's not on-rails", but if it is kept to a minimum the game may still hold promise.Smilie

Great news, glad to hear its a ground up rather than just a port.

When you look at it, the Wii is quickly becoming quite a force in the horror game market.

Awesome, one of my favourite Genres. Thank god I already have a Nyko Perfect Shot. Smilie

Tis indeed an on-rails game.

I'm disappointed that it's a genre that doesn't really present a gap in need of filling on Wii, but it still could be pretty good.

Well, that looked great. Where did you get the info about it being partially on-rails?

Check the IGN interview. It's all on-rails.

crap... it is actually on rails ! Smilie

Thats really annoying. SOmetimes I look at my wii and just want to smash it to pieces. Where are the indepth games. THe big arcing stories and detailed worlds that u can explore. Zelda was the last one (that was any gd) and that had too many familiar mechanics. I cant help but feel this is a cop out. ITs cheaper developement. The wii could offer so much especially once motion plus is introduced. But I think I might have to concede its just the wrong platform. Platformers and GTA&co really cant co-exist properly on one platform. Thats a shame as I love both sides but wanted a change to dual analogues

That looks like a straight-up House of the Dead style game to me.

Smilie this looks pretty good. *hopes it\'s not on-rails*

EDIT: Crap, seems like it is... WHY!!!!

It's on rails? Meh.

Dead, dead, deadski... do not want. I want to be in control and shoot at my own pace dammit.

Not POP POP POP...oh gotta go, kill you on my replay... POPPOP POP POP POP ahh I got bitten. don't matter cameras moving. POP POPPITY POP POP POP level done D grade. EA you suck for this.

I\'m glad they\'ve made a completely different game, I don\'t care that it\'s on rails, I personally like on rail shooters, and RE:UC proved that they can have quite a bit of depth to them and look good, and apparently some of that video is real gameplay, so yeah, I think it\'s going to be awesome.

I\'ve read the comments on the Ign, and people misleadingly think there are too many on rail shooters on the Wii, I say what? there\'s like 10 and that\'s too many?

I admit, the Wii needs to see quite a few more different type of games than it has. But I honestly think that there can\'t be too many light gun based games.

It's looks like it's being released too soon. I hope it's not watered down or anything.

When all is bad don't look for a easy way out. Because you wont know what to do once your out

Oh what the... I was actually thinking "Woah, this is some good news. It's a new game and ground up." Then I find out its on rails. Well I guess I never had expectations for this anyway.

Thank god...if it were a port it would have been a complete disaster.

When the Wiimote happened I was hoping HotD & others would stop being Rail Shooters & becomes FPSs. Freedom to explore the entire area is a must for me so I won't be wanting this Rail Shooter.

I sold my soul to Sony for a PS3...
