Xbox 360 Beats Nintendo

The latest Media Create chart update has arrived, showing Star Ocean 4 has toppled Mario & Luigi RPG 3!!! to claim the top spot in Japan. Square Enix and tri-Ace's Xbox 360 exclusive RPG has reportedly sold out completely, with copies of AlphaDream's Mario & Luigi title also being hard to find. The other big new releases this week were Idolmaster on PSP, which came in three different flavours, Sacred Blaze on PS2 and Flight-Plan/SEGA's Shining Force Feather, which lands at No.6 with around 30,000 sales.

Holy crap! That's amazing! I mean I guess it's Star Ocean's first week, but Mario & Luigi games are usually huge!

I guess Star Ocean is pretty big in Japan, even if it's a 360 exclusive. Star Ocean 4 is easily my most anticipated game at the moment, I've been playing through the remakes of the first 2 titles on PSP and they're excellent, especially the 2nd one!

all i can say is...FINALLY!!! not like, finally Nintendo got dethrone by a 360 title. like finally 360 getting alittle better in the rpg department. (excluding obilivion)

-make it count- Hey if you wanna play Wii Games with me, check out my game portion of my profile and pm me if you wanna add me so I can add you!

Bad week for Nintendo, only 6 games in the top 20...

43.) Sonic World Adventure (PS3, SEGA) - 3,300 | NEW

Is this Sonic the Hedgehog 2006?

Microsoft definitely have a bigger market share in Japan this generation compared to the last. They're not too far off a million consoles sold.

No it's Sonic Unleashed. Not doing so well huh? But at least it's on the chart. Sonic 2006 bombed completely.

No where near what they want it to be though!

The PSP is doing pretty well. The Playstation 3 is still struggling I see.

I think the headline, and terms like "dethrone" are a little bit strong, and very misleading. The Xbox 360 didn't touch the Wii... one of its games hit the top of the list. That's great, it happens sometimes. But that doesn't mean Nintendo has been dethroned, nor has the 360 beaten anything. Look at the rest of the list. Even the PS3 has sold more units than the 360 over there. It hasn't even hit one million.
Plus, this is Star Ocean we're talking about. Those games are great, and I think there are like 4 billion more SO titles in Japan than in America, suggesting that they love it even more over there than over here.
Not trying to sound like a fanboy... I just think the headline, from a journalistic standpoint, is completely inaccurate.

no surprise star ocean got first. Japanese love the star ocean series, look at the sales for each of the previous installments and it'll look the same as this. Nice work microsoft, you finally found the series that might break you into the japanese market

There are 5 SO titles, only one of them has never left Japan.

Plus SO's fanbase is tiny in comparison to many other JRPGs. This title was their make or break, if it didn't do well they were going to stop making them.

What? Where are they all?
I've only ever seen TtEoT. And I never finished it (great game, but I ended up forgetting something about halfway across the game and didn't have the patience to go back for it xD) and I think I remember reading about one for SNES, though I thought that was Japan-only.

Till the End of Time (SO3) is the PS2 game that everyone seems to hate, and until SO4 was announced people thought it killed the series. I've not played it yet so I don't know, but it looks good enough.

The Super Nintendo one was remade on PSP, so it's available worldwide and improved now. The only one to not leave Japan was Blue Sphere on Gameboy Colour, which is a direct sequel to SO2.

well, nintendo is running out of customers..everyone already has a wii so make something new or deal with it ninty

Nintendo is a games firm, thats where the big money lies.

Also, fyi, the Wii hasnt yet sold as much as ps2 or ds for lifetime sales. Everyone hasnt got one yet.
