Wii Menu 3.5 Blocks Twilight, PatchMii on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Wii System Menu 3.5 has continued recent efforts from Nintendo by blocking software from being run, including the Twilight Hack.

According to QJ, the system update has, at time of writing, only arrived in Korea, bringing with it continued protection to prevent certain software from running.

The Twilight Hack, PatchMii and DVDx are said to be affected, but those who already have the Homebrew channel installed can still run their applications. As with previous updates, the channel can't be installed without the Twilight Hack, so those wanting to delve into the world of homemade brew will need to hold out for a fix.

Blegh. Well, doesn't bother me too much, I haven't updated for nearly a year. I'm not risking losing my precious region-free. Smilie

Guess Korea is more a priority for piracy issues.

Still, if Nintendo didnt have regions and had an official dvd software support people wouldnt need a patch so much.

What, for hackers to come up with a fix? I'd be surprised if they haven't managed by tomorrow. Smilie

The Twilight Hack for 3.4 was pretty much out by the time I knew 3.4 blocked it. Plus they say there are other games than TP with workarounds that Nintendo don't know about yet.

One thing I do want to know though, Nintendo said that all updates after 3.4 would be automatic (assuming you have 3.4. Does anyone know if the 3.5 update was automatic and unstoppable? If it wasn't I may consider uopdating to 3.4 so I can have the nice loading speeds.

Was bound to happen at some point but hackers will find a way around it.

I assume this update is preparing systems for the SD Card fix late March/Early April.

Nintendo havn't said anything about it for ages, are you sure it hasn't been delayed?

Iwata's got that GDC talk near the end of the month. Chances are he'll talk more about the Fix and probably Motion+ too.

I'm peeved that we still don't know if this is a proper SD Card Unlock or not. Smilie

A Week!? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, 5 days max my friend! 5 days max Smilie

I honestly don\'t know why they keep doing this. There isn\'t any point in updating, cause you\'re not getting anything out of it. I\'ll consider updating when i have a good reason to update.

Nintendo your efforts are futile.

I wouldn't be quite so sure about Nintendo not actually being able to stop Homebrew etc on Wii. As per I understand it after speaking to some of the main Homebrew guys is that Ninty could easily delete the Channel in an update but they haven't done so yet because they are focussed on Piracy and not the casual homebrewer.

It doesn't matter how quick the guys can work around it, Nintendo could easily send out an update every 4 weeks Microsoft Windows Style which deletes all known homebrew stuff in one go. Nintendo have the time and resources to delete stuff every week, do you think the homebrewers want to have to redo their work every month in their spare time (remember they're not getting paid)?

Instead of bitching at Nintendo for doing updates so far that haven't wiped the channel we should be thankful.
