Super Mario Galaxy Wins Best Game Bafta on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo's latest Mario adventure, Super Mario Galaxy, has won "Best Game" at this year's Bafta.

The highly acclaimed Wii platformer came up tops at tonight's awards, topping the likes of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, Fable II and Call of Duty IV. Nintendo also nabbed the handheld game Bafta for Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

Other notable award winners include Race Driver: Grid for Sports game, Call of Duty IV for Gameplay, Story and Character, alongside EA's Dead Space earning audio merits. For a full rundown of awards and nominations, check out the Official Video Game Baftas website and the Bafta Twitter feed.

It wraps you up in a compelling story and makes you care about the characters on the way. I was genuinely moved by the ending. It\'s no less valid than an RPG just because it\'s an FPS. Is Half-Life just a \'fucking shooter\'?

I've played through COD: WaW and it has a decent story. However, several of my friends who've played through both 4 and WaW mention how much they like certain characters from COD 4 when COD comes up in a conversation. They also hint at plot points, but they don't want to spoil anything in case I ever get around to getting it.

And they're not shooter nuts. They both have Fable 2 and Oblivion and such.

Certainly more story than Mario Galaxy. It just so happens Mario Galaxy doesn't need a story to be tons of fun.

Great to see Nintendo win a best game award -- they often get ignored by the mainstream. Galaxy deserves it.

Well Deserved... SMG deserves al the praise it can get. truly a masterpiece. Excellent game which devs should follow and aim to do on the Wii. In recent years, I agree it is the best so far, even though I'm not a big 3D Mario fan Smilie .

Excellent. Nicely done, Nintendo. They got it for 2 very excellent games. Professor Layton has a great visual style and deserves it, too.
Bafta got it. Despite a great lineup in Mainstream they went for the truly good.
That doesn't mean I think the other games were great, no offense meant. But I am tired of GTA4 being hyped so much. Great decision.
