Manga Heading to Nintendo's WiiWare

Manga Heading to Nintendo

It has been confirmed that more Manga comics will be heading to the WiiWare service in Japan next month. Sun Denshi will release the digital comic Out of Galaxy: Gin no Koshika, part of the Sunsoft Books series, on Nintendo's WiiWare download service in Japan on 14th April. This follows on from Princess Ai Monogatari, which was released earlier this year.

This original piece of work from Leiji Matsumoto comes from an idea had by the author whilst he was working on older titles such as Galaxy Express 999 and Space Pirate Captain Herlock, and he hopes the story will deliver a peaceful message to everyone around the world. The storyline is set in Tokyo, Japan, and the tale commences on 9th September, 2099, focusing on two main characters: You Haguro and Hajime Umino. The two protagonists travel through space and time with the aim of prevent the destruction of the world.

Wii owners in Japan will be able to download 'Out of Galaxy' for 500 Nintendo Points and comes with a special piece of viewing software that offers up frame and page views, plus the choice for Japanese or English subtitles, with the English being a full translation for English-speaking manga fans in Japan. This means that potentially, if licensing issues can be sorted, the manga could eventually arrive in the West.

New content will be released in the near future as well, with each new download weighing in at 200 Nintendo Points, although how many volumes will be in each subsequent download pack is currently unknown. Finally, there will be extra content made available, with Mastsumoto-san interviews and 'Making-Of' features.

Would you like to see Manga like this arrive on the Western WiiWare service?

I like Manga more then Marvel or DC.
But I don't like reading online a lot. Nothing beats paper for me. But I see the benefits for it: cheaper, maybe more independents coming via Wiiware if they open it for them.
But they should try manga for the west, since they love them here in Europe.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I do love the idea, but I have to admit I wouldn't buy it if it was localised, as like Laurelin I much prefer paper to reading online, it's just not the same.

In any case I hope this is localised anyway, as I'm sure many would really like the idea. As for Marvel or DC, wouldn't there be various liscencing issues with releasing them on Wiiware?
