Severed Arms to Promote MadWorld on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

To promote the release of MadWorld in the UK, Sega have been placing severed black and white arms across London.

The Wii-exclusive action/gore game goes on sale in Europe today, and the arms can be found in popular public locations including the famous Tower Bridge and fashionable Carnaby Street in the West End.

MadWorld recently received a well-deserved 9/10 here on C3.

Sega is delighted to be leading the way with adult games for the Wii, and we are sure that gaming fans will see it as a breath of fresh air.
The arms used were very clearly black and white to reflect the comic-book nature of the game. We had a team of people carefully monitoring reaction to the arms; if anyone at all found them offensive we removed them immediately. But we have had no complaints from the public at all. It is the second time in a week computer game firms have used fake body parts as shock tactics to sell their products.

What do you think of the idea? Should more publishers consider unique forms of promotion?

No complaints from the public at all?

Cool marketing idea. This would never work where I'm from, people bitch about everything, I could imagine the concerned parents about seeing a servered limb on the sidewalk.

Very interesting idea, and we'll see just how well it pays off when the new UK chart is released on Monday. House of the Dead: Overkill has been hanging on quite well, actually climbing this week, so SEGA's clearly doing something right, managing to appeal to Wii audience well enough!

If MadWorld does well I bet/hope Capcom shoot themselves in the foot multiple times for letting those awesome devs go.

I wonder if the arm down tower bridge is still there, might take a stroll down there and go and see on the weekend.
