Denise Kaigler Talks Wii, Localisation on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo's Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Denise Kaigler recently talked Wii updates, localisation and a date for E3 2009.

  • The "Wii-kly Update" will be changing its name to "Nintendo Download" starting April 6th due to the inclusion of DSi releases in the weekly selection.
  • Increase in Wii stock is a result of "Nintendo's pledge to increase stock by 50%". Out of stock at retailers is now 10%. Nintendo have no plans in price cuts despite the ridiculously cheap price of the Xbox 360.
  • Nintendo of America has very little, to no say about which titles go worldwide - NCL make all decisions when porting games to other regions.
  • Nintendo's E3 2009 conference will be held on June 2nd, but there's a possibility that the company won't be returning to the Kodak theatre.
  • Thanks to N-Sider.

I also don't really find that believable... what about Mother? And Stafy? Didn't the developers show interest in localising those but Reggie said "NOWAY FOOLS".

I guess Stafy's finally being localised though.

Yeah it's a bit silly to keep the Wii that expensive really...

Why does everyone thing Reggie hates Earthbound (and Starfy) and is choosing not bring it to America?

The only things I\'ve seen in this regard are articles/videos of him either saying \"not yet\" or to quote him from an interview \"... certainly I\'ve seen the success in Japan. That hasn\'t gone unnoticed. And it\'s certainly something we\'re looking at.\"

Plus, Reggie is president of Nintendo of America, not Nintendo Europe and the game has yet to see a release there either.

My guess is that NOA does have final say over whether a game gets a released here, but only on games that have been given a green light for international release by NCL first.

    Sweet, June 2nd for E3.

I wish NoA would bring Disaster over here... That was one of my most anticipated games last year Smilie

    NCL?

Eh, whatever. I find it a bit hard to imagine that NoA couldn't say "Hey, we'd like to bring Earthbound or Soma Bringer to America," and actually have SOME influence. I mean, if they're too lazy to publish themselves, get, like, Atlus or somebody to publish it... I mean really.
