MadWorld Drops to Below £20 in the UK on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Sega's MadWorld is having a few problems in the UK with major retailers already chainsawing prices significantly.

The comic-violence Wii-exclusive has a large number of fans, but unfortunately isn't doing as well as retailers had hoped - in the UK anyway. Game ships the title for £19.99, £17.99 GameStation and a shocking £16.99 over at GamePlay. The game has the usual Wii RRP of £34.99.

The news comes as the game made 34th in the all-formats top 40 in its first week but slipped off 7 days later. With the reduction and gamers having a four day Easter weekend, perhaps there's some hope for poor old jack.

Have you bought MadWorld already? Will you now be grabbing a copy at this price?

It's a shame. The advertising has been weak here in the UK. Those small spots on late night TV are too short!. In the US they are showing the full comedic sports trailers, they leave a impression on viewers. The small spots we have just baffle people.

Support the Wii, get a copy!.

I got Madworld. It's a kicka$$ game you need to pick this game up, it's levels may be easy at first but beat it once and the game gets harder greatly. And, the graphics aren't bad.

When all is bad don't look for a easy way out. Because you wont know what to do once your out

Checking with my sources...

Nope next to nothing by way of TV ads on US shores.

Reasons for US success:
BLOOD! and it looks like something familiar so it must be good and safe.

BTW I loved it.

Your sources are wrong. SEGA did a deal with a few program makers to showcase the game. The adverts were shown on select programs across the whole of the US during the month of March.

well the thing is in the uk if they do put alot of ads you have all the MP trying to ban it

I think this is just proof that the hardcore gamer has long since abandoned the Wii. Smilie

Sonic and the Black Knight has also dropped in price, and they're both SEGA games. I know SEGA and Capcom games tend to drop in price often, and Nintendo games never do. I always thought it was 'cos SEGA was nice, like those people who make PS2 games that drop in price in like a week and make the GC owners look like idiots for spending so much money on games.

How well did it do in US.

The TV I watched meant I regularly saw the adds so dont know if that means anything. Paramount late night, E4, Eurosport I think, Probably on Dave LOL.

Didnt buy it because I'm poor. But Im totaly foregoing Dinner and buying it on gameplay.

Didn't madworld only come out like a few weeks ago? Certainly dropped in price fast.

Nintendo Network ID: LKR000               PSN: LKR000
3DS: 1246-8696-120                              GT: LKR101

I've seen the shockingly crap adverts for this game. I've no intention of buying it. Even at the low price of £16.99 - the adverts dont do the game justice.

Speaking of which £16.99 is a very good price for a game, on april fools i got manhunt 2 for wii for £4.99, price of persia PS3 for £9.99 both delivered..so they might still have some good game deals going on people - it was on play btw

From what I've played it's bloody repetitive...I'm certainly not a fan of it. I'm glad to see House of the Dead: Overkill is managing to still hang on here in the UK, though - great news Smilie

I just think the adverts plain suck. Its a sort of niche game anyway. Very stylised, very violent and very difficult to shift no Wii. Tricky.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

I've actually seen quite a few Madworld adverts on TV, so Sega is/was advertising it well in the States.

I have seen quite a few adverts on E4, mostly late night. They advertise it like a tie-in of some reality TV program, which I guess is accurate, but I don't know if that advertising strategy is good or just makes it look like licensed crap. I imagine Capcom will have the same problem selling Spyborgs.

People cry out for more gamer games on Wii and when one finally arrives, no one buys it. Smilie

I haven't bought it because it doesn't appeal to me. Never has.

This just shows that new IPs, especially on Wii, just don't stand much of a chance. A Shame really.

I haven't bought it because it doesn't appeal to me. Never has.

Same here.

But then, what if its the same for everyone?

What if the reason it isnt saleing is that, on average, people DONT like dumb violent killfests?

Maybe games like Re4, GTA and what not are successfull because of the other componants that make the game up.

I mean, is this not in some ways simerla to Too human?
A game that, when it comes down to it, is killing lots of things with long combos and such...non stop...with not much else to the gameplay?
TooHuman also didnt sale that well. (purhapes it would of if it was an epic adventure rpg as original concieved)

I think MadWorld is probably really good, but it doesn\'t have the charm that Viewtiful Joe or Okami had; maybe that\'s what gamers almost expected from it; I dunno, but I\'m the same, the hype never grabbed me at any point, and I doubt I\'ll buy it. Mostly same with NMH, although I\'m more interested in that than this.

Bayonetta on the other hand is sounding interesting.

Well its not onrails so im supporting it. They put effort into the game and the general feedback is that its good. I like all genres apart from puzzle.

I don't really know what games I want I just know what I don't want. Onrails for onrails sake (so HOTD excluded) and mini games. I love third person action games. And the wii really lacks in this department.

I agree madworld seems a bit mindless but no more then wii sports or music. At least there is some kind of goal and more depth.

Think this year will be good for wii. I think there are a lot of unannounced games that will make an appearance later. And there are a lot of games that I keep forgetting because they have been hidden for ages. Fragile looks amazing

A lot of the poor sales are probably to do with the fact that the game runs in 50Hz. I know people who won't be buying it because of that reason, myself included.

If I can get it for cheap though, like it is now, I will get it. I would never pay full price for it though.

I've already brought it, it is repetitive yeah, but the majority of games are repetitive, sometimes even more repetitive than Madworld, like in Street Fighter II fighting Vega and he constantly climbs on the walls.

But this is a really enjoyable game, when you get into it. I'm surprised that the price dropped so much, I mean a £13 price drop in about 2 weeks. I barely ever see any adverts, and some reasons why people aren't buying it even though they want it seem silly (like Marzy's).

Yeah I read about this on CAG, on the flip side at least more people will buy it.

Well that sucks.

Hardly proof.

You can\'t seriously be judging the hardcore gamerbase of Wii on an new, relatively unknown game that is entirely black and white, ultraviolent, unadvertised in Europe, and apparently has some display issues on European TVs.

EDIT: In response to other posts, there have been lots of TV ads for MadWorld here in the US.

I\'m pretty sure it runs in 60htz, it just dosn\'t do progressive scan.

Just checked yeah it is 50htz...wow.

From what I gather, you live in the UK. Maybe it's different over there (I'm in the US) but Nintendo's games tend to be dirt cheap. Almost every classic cube game was amde into Player's choice, meaning $20 new. The Wii doesn't seem to be following suit (are they going to do player's choice, anymore?) But certain games have received some price drops (No More Heroes is $20 new, for example.)
Advertising for Mad World doesn't seem spectacular here; it made it into a lot of issues of GameInformer, and the ads were funny (Lose 20 pounds in five seconds, ask me how...) but I haven't seen anything on TV. I have yet to check the game out; I'm a bit iffy on it. The premise sounded great and it looks great in photographs, but when I watch videos from it, it looks like the black and white makes it difficult to see, and it gave me a headache Smilie
