DSi Becomes 4th Best Opening Weekend UK Seller

Nintendo's DSi has received incredible success in the UK in its opening weekend.

The console has become the 4th fastest-selling console in UK history after launching just last week on 4th April 2009. According to MCV it was only topped by the opening weekends of PSP, PS3 and Wii.
GKf-ChartTrack data has indicated that Nintendo's revised DS outsold the combined total of other formats, including Nintendo's very own Wii, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and PS3, PSP from Sony.

It's a very impressive opening couple of days considering the lack of launch software. It's the fourth fastest-selling console in UK history in terms of opening weekend - one ahead of the original DS in fifth and way ahead of DS Lite. It's difficult to tell if the momentum will continue into the week, as much of the sales would have been pre-ordered. There was also a slight spike in DS software.

In related news, the 1000 free Nintendo points offered to those buying the console will only be available for the next 6 months. A comment from a GameSpot staff member confirms that you'll only be able to redeem your free virtual dosh until October 4th 2009.

That's pretty impressive, especially with the current 'economic climate'. What recession?

True, but it\'s very impressive given that. It begs belief given all the factors in play here.

Who is buying all these DSi\'s ?!?!

    Your thoughts?

I think the current economic climate was the only thing stopping it from not being more.

I have to admit I don't quite understand it myself...seems like a lot of money to throw away on a sexed up DSLite.
