Tekken Director: Wii Version up to the Fans

Tekken Director: Wii Version up to the Fans on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Tekken 6 director Katsuhiro Harada was quizzed on whether Tekken 5 or 6 would make it to the Wii - his response - depends on the fans.

Speaking to GamePro, Harada suggested that Wii owners demand for an exclusive or ported Tekken game, especially due to the lack of fighting games on the motion controlled box. He seems fairly open to bringing the franchise to Nintendo, especially given the inclusion of Xbox 360 was fan-driven.

That would be very interesting. Like the Xbox 360 owners, if Wii owners are passionate and make it known they really want the series on their system, we would love to be able to answer that request.

Hearing about the huge number of Xbox 360 owners who are Tekken fans, especially in North America, definitely played a huge part in influencing us to bring the game to that system.

As for the Wii, the standard controller lacks the right number of buttons and the placement is awkward, so... I suppose the classic controller could handle it!

Would you like to see Tekken on the Wii? If so, how would you go about the button placement/control schemes?

Guided fighting experience for the win…

\"due to the lack of fighting games on the motion controlled box\"

yeah, hasn\'t anyone realised WHY there aren\'t many games of the fighting genre on the Wii?
seriously, try playing smackdown vs raw, its a nightmare, its all fine for the first match or two, then fatigue sets in to your wrists and RSI kicks in too, in short, while i can\'t deny that the wii is a fantastic piece of kit, fighting games with motion controls just dont seem to work

*Visions of Eddies spin kicks with Wii remote*
This is like dropping a big F-bomb on all sony fans!
It would be good if they did it, just no motion controls and give us the option for classic controller and GC and I will be happy!

That's were the classic & gamecube controls come in... I can't play SSBB with the Wiimote at all. Smilie

Same XD they need to include gamecube/classic controls otherwise it's gonna be a pain.

Nintendo's biggest mistake with the Wii was not including a classic controller with the console as well as the Wii remote/nuchuck - and making the classic controller wireless (like the Wavebird). Easily the biggest mistake.

I think a lot of these studios would have brought over fighting games to the Wii, but don't because of the lack of 100% of players having standard controllers.

If they hadn't reminded me that the 360 release of Tekken 6 was fan drive, I would have thought this meant a definite no.

Maybe Namco aren't lying about this; it'd be awesome, that's all I can say.

Fighting games...that is, traditionally controlled button-mashing games....are probably the one genre the Wiimote+Nunchuck cant do well.

Classic controll, or cube pads could certainly work well.

Or, well, someone might come up with a creative new type of fighting game rather then trying to poorly map gestures to combos. (which dosnt work well).

Maybe you could have a fighting game where the buttons controll if your kicking or punching, and then you quickly point with the wiimote at exactly where your aiming the blow on the other player.
Obviously, this would have to be 3D, and much slower paced. (maybe even slow-mo)
But still, could work well, imho. Especialy as the other player could hold the block button and aim at your limb doing the incoming attack. Would be very reaction/aiming/tactical based fighter.

Agreed, Wiimote play on SSBB is rot. Fighting games are possible and needed. I got a mate that is begging for some fighting action and relegated himself to purchasing the Genesis version of SFII on VC. Poor bastard. Someone get working on this and save him from the soundless nightmare.

I found Tekken 6 in an arcade a few days ago and I love it. They've built on the amazing Tekken 5 with added fluidity and new moves. But the Wii definitely couldn't handle it. I'm totally for a Tekken game on the Wii but I don't want a port of Tekken 6, I want an original ground-up Wii Tekken. Would you 360/PS3 owners buy a reduced quality version of Tekken 6 instead of the most arcade perfect port? I would however buy a Tekken Tag 2: Wii.

Maybe use the classic and GC controllers hell then i'll pick one up.

When all is bad don't look for a easy way out. Because you wont know what to do once your out

I don\'t think that was a mistake at all. Rather I think it would have been a mistake to include one. I personally don\'t use a Classic/GCN controller for any games at all, but if I wanted to I could just plug in my GCN controller(s). It would have needlessly increased the production cost of Wii to include a Classic Controller when most people either already have a GCN controller or could just buy one separately. Plus it would let developers be lazy in game design by letting them easily avoid the Wii Remote and simply use a traditional controller - and I definitely did not buy a Wii just so I could play games the traditional way.

For Smash Bros. I use the Wii Remote/Nunchuk combo and it is great. Even the remote by itself is perfectly usable.

I'm probably one of the few who enjoyed SvR08 & SvR09 on the Wii. I think it kind of sucks that Wii didn't get it's own LoWM.

TNA iMPACT on the Wii sucked.

MK:A I got through, though some of the controls are a little off in their motions. Yet it can be played with a GC Controller.

I sold my soul to Sony for a PS3...

Why does everyone say, that Classic controller isn't wireless? snap it into your Wiimote, let that one rest in your lap, pin it onto your lower arm or put it onto your sofa while using classic controller. The lack of bluetooth technique makes it 20 EUR cheap... Everyone can buy one - especially when considering you have to buy a arcade fighting stick to play Stree Fighter IV right and that one's 150 EUR...

Seriously, making a fighting game in the likes of SSBM controls would be great: You may play it in 4 different ways: Wiimote, together with Nunchuck, Classic Controller or Cube controller. That would be great for Tekken on Wii.
And I played Soulcalibur 2 on GC the other day. Graphics are great and Wii would be capable of doing Tekken! So give it to us. I would buy it, I think!

So please send these comments here to Namco Bandai. They took away Soul Calibur 4, I hope at least they bring us Tekken!
(btw.: I want SC4, too!)

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Could well be PR talk..you have to take a wait and see approach to such things.

Tag would be cool on Wii.

That\'s easily the best point made i\'ve read on this site

^ this man speaks the truth. They should've included a standard controller in the pack so the audience could opt on which to use.

Maybe they could bring tekken 5.5 out or something. I think they could make a comfortable enough control scheme with the Wii-remote and Nunchuck but I guess for those who want more button mashing they could do a deal where they package a Classic controller for an extra fiver with it.

Would only be interested in this game if the controls don't require me to waggle for normal attacks. Motion is fine if it is done Madworld style where it is a very simple motions for certain moves. And I agree with everyone on the multiple controls like SSBB. Let the players choose the controls because some have different likes. Plus Wiimote and nunchuck for Brawl isn't that bad, takes some getting used to but afterward I found it very comfortable. Still would pick GC controller though.
