Wii MotionPlus Hits Europe on 12th June on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo is set for a blockbuster summer with the announcement of two anticipated product releases. The new Wii MotionPlus accessory will hit European retailers on 12th June, taking the motion-sensing controls of the popular Wii system to new levels of precision and performance. What's more, these control enhancements will be on vibrant display when the Wii Sports Resort game launches on 24th July, offering a beach-themed follow-up to the popular Wii Sports game. Wii Sports comes packed with the Wii console and continues to attract new players of all generations and ages to the world of video games. Each Wii Sports Resort game comes packed with a single Wii MotionPlus accessory.

When used with specially designed games [such as Virtua Tennis 2009 (SEGA), Grand Slam Tennis (EA), Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (EA)], Wii MotionPlus tracks players' movements in finer detail and with greater accuracy than ever before, building upon the innovative wireless function of the motion-sensing Wii Remote controller. Even the slightest twist of the wrist or turn of the body is replicated exactly on the TV screen, allowing users to become even more immersed in Wii game play. Wii MotionPlus is designed for easy attachment to the Wii Remote controller.

"Everyone who has played the Wii can remember the moment they first discovered its intuitive controls and realised that this was an incredible new way of experiencing video games. Wii MotionPlus will create that feeling again, taking gameplay to a new level of realism. And with Wii Sports Resort, people will get the chance to immerse themselves in a hugely fun set of games that are designed to make the very best of this exciting new technology."
- Laurent Fischer, Managing Director, Marketing & PR, Nintendo of Europe.

Wii Sports Resort takes the inclusive fun and intuitive controls of the original Wii Sports to the next level, introducing a whole new set of entertaining and physically immersive activities. With the deep control enhancements of Wii MotionPlus, veteran Wii users and newcomers alike can enjoy unprecedented gaming precision as they cruise on a water scooter, duel with swords, toss flying discs and much more.

Great news for EA!

Its $20 in america. I think it should not retail any more then £10 here on principle. If you start adding all the components up it would cost:
Remote £30
Nun chuck £15
Motion plus £10

total £55

I dont want anyone to tell me that nintendo should charge as much as possible because its a buisness and you want them to make loads of money.

£55 for one controller is just not ethical. Considering nintendo wants families to play together.

They should place one free with every console.

I only have one complete controller but I would cry parting with £50 and not actually have a new game at hand.

I think it will cost the same as the Nunchuck here, so €20 or £15.

Yeah, that's an expensive combination. At this moment I only have 2 Wiimotes + 2 Nunchucks. I'll get Wii Sports Resort for the WM+. Maybe the new Zelda will come with another WM+, so I won't have to buy a seperate one.

There's no way I'm buying 2 more controller combination just so guests can play with 4 at a time.

I would be very disappointed with nintendo if they sold it above £10.
Nintendo might not have promised 1:1 controls but they also never denied it. I Remember IGN trying to work out if future games could deliver true 1:1 controls at the start.

But on a positive note VirtuaTennis is using motion plus. A strange fact is; until now there have been very few proper tennis games (not mario related)on nintendos machines. And even considering the wii remote VT skipped the wii last time around opting just for 360 and ps3.

Not to try to sound like I wasn't impressed with the Wiimote the first time I picked it up, but shouldn't motionplus have been the standard? Should Nintendo not have tried to release this WITH the wii rather than an afterthought?

Most likely it was a cost issue. Nintendo has a principle of not releasing products at a lost, which I can respect since they only dabble in the game industry.

Whats the word on US release? I like to get these accessories out of the way before the casual crowd bum rushes in and takes the whole stock.

^^^

Actually I think the technology was still being developed. They wanted to release the Wii soon and obviously couldn't wait long for the motion plus to be completed. I mean in the long run its more costly as many developers including Nintendo have to include both regular motion and motion plus support.

That\'s surely going to be a pain in the ass for developers, as i\'m assuming they\'ll have to program the whole game twice. If this is the case, should we not be worried that it might put some developers off?

Not sure, since Devs don't have to use it if they feel it doesn't add anything to the game.
