Pokemon Gold & Silver Remakes Imminent?

Japan's popular variety show Pokemon Sunday is teasing a major announcement for May 10th, and signs point to the long-awaited Gold & Silver Remakes.

    The offical site for the show promises it to be 'a worldwide first announcement and a worldwide first big scoop'. One major clue the show's producers may have provided is in the colour of the Confetti-filled Party balls on the show;

Due to recent rumours and many hints contained within Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, fans speculate that Nintendo will finally be giving Johto (and by extension Kanto) a much-deserved retread on the DS.

Further adding fuel to the fire is that both Japanese Magazines Coro Coro (which has revealed new Pokemon games before) and Nintendo Dream are set to feature a 'much-talked-about big title', and both will be released after the airing of Pokemon Sunday.

Would other Pokemon fans here like to see Gold and Silver re-imagined on the DS?

Easily me favourite pair of Pokemon games - would be great to see them remade, on the Wii even perhaps. Its length, characters and everything were just perfect. <3 G&S!

Lol the people looking up at the balls seem to pretty much highlight that it\'ll be G&S

Inside Pokémon Diamond and Pearl save file is, for eachh pokémon, a byte which contains the origin of the Pokémon, which can be set to Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Pearl, Leaf green, Fire red and ... Silver and Gold, even though you can't import Pokémon from the GBC games, so yes, it had been planned all along since they released Pokémon Diamon & Pearl. No surprise here.

Heh, think I'm just going to go with the Silver version this time round then, seeing I already have Ho-Oh from Colosseum :3
There were seriously a ridiculous amount of references to G/S in D/P/Pt, so I think 9/10 people already saw this coming :-P

So what's the deal with all the extra Pokemon that appeared after Gold/Silver? There were 250 in GSC right? Will there be more in this version?

Smilie That's pretty smart of them really. I can't wait for this, even if it's not a GSC remake.

Also, I hope it has the Crystal stuff in it. If not it'd be pretty stupid, they finally have an opportunity to wrap up that unfinished plot between Suicune and the Unown.

There were 251 to get in GSC, although a good amount of them you needed to trade from RGBY first.

Now there are 493, but I doubt they'll add any Pokémon from 3rd or 4th gens, at least not until you get the National Pokédex at the end of the game. Hopefully there would be some extra locations too. Smilie

I can definitely see this being for DS, but like jb says, it would be amazing if it turned out to be for Wii. Smilie

Is anyone else worried that Kanto would be omitted from a GSC remake? I dunno why... it's just, they don't seem to want us going to multiple regions anymore >:

I've just bought Ruby/Sapphire online. I can't wait to lose myself in a PKMN game again!

That said... I doubt I'll buy these remakes any time soon. Same with Leaf Green / Fire Red. I'm just not enough into Pokémon anymore. I got all 150 in Blue/Red, and after that it's just gone downhill.

Kanto was fairly empty in GSC, so I hope they improve it if they do do a remake.

What I would love to see is a massive 2D game with O.M.G. beautiful graphics and animation in battle and put it on the Wii.

I know this goes against the Pokemon philisophy, but it would be awesome.

Nah, that was a major part of the appeal of GS. They might even dump Fire Red/Leaf Green's Kanto straight into it but modified.

GS is definitely the best of the Pokemon games, so I'm really looking forward to finding out if it's true. It's been rumoured for so long. They should expand Kanto and maybe even chuck in ANOTHER region just to make it last even longer.

Or just give us a proper damn Wii RPG.

No it hasn\'t. The games are getting better, kids are just more easily pleased. It\'s called nostalgia.

The games haven't got better. They've gotten rather repetitive due to sticking to such a rigid structure. Besides, tracking all the stuff since Ruby and Sapphire about killing certain Pokémon to raise attack and others to raise speed is monotonous and simply aggravating.

Gold and Silver were the best in the series. I'd definitely buy this.

What? Are you talking about EV training? That's been around since Red/Blue...

I wouldn't call it an efficient news source or a definite answer, but this is interesting.

I can confirm to you all that this announcement is indeed a Gold and Silver remake as I JUST heard news of it from my buddy in Treehouse who has known for a while and while I knew (and actually told through PM a few people on GAF) I feel as though now is as good of a time as any to let everyone know.

Release is Late 2009 Japan release, Spring 2010 America.

Also, expect an announcement soon after E3 of a new Wii based Pokemon game compatible with these new games as well as Platinum.

For those of you paying particular attention to that last line, he says later on to think less MMO, and more Pokemon Battle Revolution, so don't get your hopes up on that one. Smilie

Pokémon's ALWAYS been repetetive, but it also has a huge amount of fans who love it despite this. The games are addictive and fun.

How have the games not gotten better? Give a new player Pokémon Red and Pokémon Platinum, and then a week later ask him which one he prefers.

The answer is as clear as day, because the new player doesn't have nostalgitus.

I'm pretty sure they'd keep Kanto, it's practically the most appealing thing about G/S. Now if they stuck Hoenn in there aswell? Best Pokémon game ever. It probably won't happen though. Smilie

That's easily my biggest fear. The Kanto half of GSC had pretty crap music, so doing that again with high quality music would be AWESOME.

Also I wanna see all the older Kanto Gym Leaders again T-T

I\'m not sure if the DS could pull of visuals pretty enough for 3D battles to be worth it...I\'d rather have it sprite-based still, though a prettier, less basic redesign of the battles would be nice. Not likely though.

Just wait, after all this speculation, next week\'s announcement will just be Pokémon Channel 2 or something. Smilie
