Dragon Quest Wars Comes to DSiWare

Nintendo's download service for the DSi will be filled with Square Enix's top monsters in a new strategy game, Dragon Quest Wars.

The downloadable game will be a strategy title featuring creatures from the ol' Dragon Quest series with touch-screen control and a regular grid system. It's being devised by the intelligent folk at Intelligent Systems (of Advance Wars/Fire Emblem fame) .

Dragon Quest Wars lets you pick four monsters and face regular CPU-controlled parties, local play and take the action online via Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection. Up to four players can link up.

A Western release has yet to be confirmed but with the title trademarked in the US and Nintendo having a fair bit of involvement, it's more than likely that Dragon Quest Fans outside Japan will get their fix on DSi.

    Thanks to Siliconera.

Nintendo teaming up with Square Enix for the first time since Super Mario RPG? Mario Basket 3-on-3 and Itadaki Street DS were both S-E developed, so I wonder if this is indeed the first joint-project between the two, or if it's solely IS handling development?

Whatever the case I'm definitely psyched for this Smilie

One little nugget of info Jb forgot to mention is that this is the first of six (6!) DSi-related Square-Enix projects in the works. Will be interesting to see the others. Smilie

Ah, that's cool to hear - I knew S-E was working hard on DSiWare, but I didn't realise there were already six projects in the offing.
