Smash Bros. User Submissions Canned

Smash Bros. User Submissions Canned on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

At the end of June Smash Bros. fans will no longer be able to submit screenshots, stages and replay data.

According to an announcement on the official Brawl website earlier this week and a message that popped up on our Wii message board last night - you'll no longer be able to submit your creations and captures to the service from July onwards. That said, it looks as if Nintendo will still be sending out existing submissions, so expect a daily dose of Smash love whenever you connect to Nintendo WFC.

As of June 30th, 2009, the current service that accepts user-generated snapshots, stage designs, and replay data will no longer be available. Please note, however, that we will continue to distribute such data after that date.

What do you think of the move? Should Nintendo leave it running, would it cost much time or money to continue submissions?

I guess a lack of activity means there's less reason to keep them going.... It's still a shame.

Further proof of nintendos lack of understanding how online, DLC and other elements work (areas that its competitors are a country mile ahead)

its only been out a year!

It has only been out a year but I bet there is enough submitted data to last a decade already.

Say wa?

Why would Nintendo want peoples shitty stages and screens shots anyway? What a load of shit. If more time was put into the actual game working online than the shitty extras then Smash would have been great.

I guess they have tons of submissions. Maybe enough to keep the update service running for 4 years.

Edit: what Angus said.

I definitely agree with Angus. Why do people assume it\'s because of lack of submissions?

When I think of how much I have submitted and then think about the millions of copies sold, they likely have more than enough data to release new stuff every day for a decade.

EDIT: Plus, it\'s not like they can\'t just turn it back on if they need more.

Because they might be like me and never submitted a thing. I've not played Smash Bros. in months.

Just in case they're closing it down because nobody submits anymore (can't believe that), I might submit my best screenshots one final time. I have a few fun ones.

I didn\'t even know you could upload them. Smilie

Guess ten years in the future I'll see the same custom stage I downloaded today Smilie.

Another good thing Nintendo deosn't develop the fair way. How much time has passed? 1 year? Smilie

I don't see the practical reason for this. I mean, I never used it, but I'm sure there are a few people who get up at like 6:00 in the morning every day just to play the new custom stages, etc.

I think Nintendo should and could easily have done the vault system better - online galleries (viewable through the game/Smash site) - being able to navigate these and download your own favourites, and daily/monthly galleries etc. It's just so limited - could have easily have been better!
