Renegade Kid Back on DS with Platformer on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Earlier this week Renegade Kid revealed a new 3D platformer for the DS: Maximillian and the Rise of the Mutant Mudds.

You take the role of a young boy, Maximillian, whose neigbourhood is infested by gooey creatures known as Mudds. A water pack in hand he sets out to do a little cleaning to rid the planet of these creatures who came from a recent meteor crash.

Unlike Renegade's other titles on the DS, the current setup sees players using the D-pad to move about, and having a more precise shooting mode also controlled by the D-pad (whilst holding a shoulder button). The touch screen provides free look, whilst auto-focus kicks in to try and keep Maximillian centred on screen.

The studio is currently without a publisher for the project, and is looking whether to go down the download, retail route or both.

For more information, be sure to check out IGN's Maximillian and the Rise of the Mutant Mudds preview.

Looks like they've transferred the powerful engine they have into a cutesy world in an attempt to sell more than the four figures they sold for Moon recently. I really don't blame them.

TBH, though, I think Renegade should get signed up with someone other than SouthPeak. Dementium and Moon could have done so much better with more of a push.

I've been waiting for a decent 3D platformer for DS ever since Super Mario 64 DS and that was a launch game. Smilie Where are they all?

Looks like it's nicked a few elements from Mario Sunshine.

I'm starting to get a little disheartened with Renegade Kid. They seem to be great on the technical side of things, but the gameplay keeps falling short.

I love how good Dementium looks, but when I try to play through it I just get annoyed with it and bored. Moon doesn't seem to be much better by the looks of the reviews. It's such a shame 'cos the games have so much potential.

I have the same complain as Trepe about Renegade Kid. They can make technical wonders, but the game themselves are boring. And this game doesn't look to be better than the previous two.

How i long to see a 3D-Platformer on DS with the same quality as Banjo-Tooie... I'm not talking about visuals here, but just the gameplay, the variety in the worlds, the level design, the puzzles... Everything was SO perfect in this game.
