GTA: Chinatown Wars Receives Z Rating in Japan on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The DS will be receiving its first CERO Z rating in Japan with GTA: Chinatown Wars.

The Z rating is the highest a title can get, and the only other Nintendo platform title to receive it has been Killer 7 back on the GameCube. In terms of content it's similar to the ERSB's AO, PEGI's 18+ and OFLC's MA 15 ratings.

Capcom, who usually publish the Grand Theft Auto games in Japan, won't be handling the DS edition - instead, Cyberfront will be taking care of business in the land of the rising sun.

Woa, I thought that ratings were universal on games. I guess different companies in different countries use different ratings. But for a GTA game? Come on, I thought we were over this.

All the recent GTA games have received a Z rating in Japan, but Capcom was fine releasing the PS2 and PSP editions. Clearly it feels there's too much risk with a Z-rated DS game, though Smilie

By the way, CyberFront isn't completely new to GTA publishing as it handled the PC version of GTA IV in Japan...However, this could mean the DS edition won't get as much of a push as it should do, since Capcom is a far bigger company.
