MotionPlus for Future High Voltage Games?

The folk behind Wii shooter The Conduit, High Voltage, have said that they are currently experimenting with MotionPlus.

With all the love and care that went into the SEGA-published shooter, fans were hoping that the extra bit of precision offered by MotionPlus would be included, however High Voltage felt that it shouldn't simply be tacked on. With even more Wii-exclusives on the way, could we be seeing MotionPlus first person action?

The UK Official Nintendo Magazine recently popped up an extract from the High Voltage interview, where producer Cameron Rain explains the studio's interest in the technology.

I think it's fantastic. We're all about accessible gameplay and Wii MotionPlus is a further step in that direction.

Oh, we've been messing about. At the moment you see all the stuff from EA and other companies concentrating a lot on the sports genre. The full potential is still yet to be seen but it won't be long in coming.

Whenever you see new equipment and tools to play with, that just opens up the door for all kinds of creative new ideas. I'm sure we'll see in the next year some really cool stuff coming out on the Wii that could only work with Wii MotionPlus.

Do you think MotionPlus could apply to games like The Grinder and Gladiator A.D. - if so, in what ways would you implement it?

FPS games wouldn\'t really need WM+ unless there were interactive elements used like in Metroid Prime 3 or sword swinging like RS2.

The gladiator game could benefit. It would allow for more tactical swinging of weapons rather than waggling like in Zelda and Sonic.

I really want to see another WarioWare for Wii using WM+. Smooth Moves was really annoying when you lost a minigame because the game didn\'t recognise your movements properly.

I don't think their Grinder game needs it. FPS controls on the Wii (especially with the great work they have done) are plenty good enough without it. But the Gladiator game needs to have it. Its a sword fighting game, and it'll probably suck if they just go gesture based.

Id like to see a FPS game where you can shot, but also flip your gun around and use it like a racket.

So, for example, whacking grandades or sci-fi energy balls back at enemys.

But yeah, most of the advantages of MP, and 1:1 movement in general are to do with melee and close-combat stuff.

A new Zack-and-Wiki would be nice too.

WM+ I heard allows for better tracking of the reticule. So if you move it on and then back on screen you dont get that horrible thing where it sticks arounds the edge of your tv. Heard it could make for very fast 180 degree turns. The grinder will be using it because there is an asian character that deals in melee combat.

Yeah I too was waiting for a race that could do melee combat. Black and white people just couldn't cut it.

Conduit didn't need it, and their right, no use having it for sake of having it. Grinder, i can't see the point, its just another FPS, in conduit only wiggle waggle is punching and granades, both basic. the gladiators game sure, with swords and what not.

what i wouldn't mind seeing though, its maybe unloackable weapons or something, dont make it essential to the game, but give an extra treat for having it.

yeah those are some good ideas, although the whacking at sci-fi energy ball stuff just reminds me of Link vs Ganon.Smilie

I would shit a brick if Capcom made a WM+ sequel to Zack&Wiki(the sword fighting areas are horrible, but I still loved the game overall), but I don't think it sold well enough for them to be interested in a new one. What are the total sales figures for that title anyway?

    I fixed it a littleSmilie

Yeah I remember reading something about that somewhere, I just hope they don't focus on one character having WM+ controls, but give all characters their own melee weapons. I think that was how it was in Hunter the Reckoning?

Please tell me you've actually played The Conduit, or at least are not basing your opinion on their Licensed stuff.

Phoenixus, have you seen their art design in Conduit? Or have you had an opportunity to "admire" their level design in the game?

Wait, so you're basing the quality of an entire game; controls, graphical quality, story, sound, over mere standard art design? Geez, it's not even a big deal.

Phoenixus, have you read my sentence about the \"amazing\" level design, which is the most important part of any FPS game? Boxes connected by straight tunnels and rare badly designed open spaces... hmmm... FPSes of the 90s did much better than that, even console ones.

Poor level design, as you believe, is nowhere near enough to bring down all of a game\'s other genuinely good qualities, not to the extent you\'re suggesting of it being \'crap\'.

Phoenixus, oh, yes, it is. Level design is as important as general game mechanics. And the funny part is that in terms of game mechanics Conduit is as flat and dull as they come.

I don\'t deny that Level design is fairly important to a game, but even a generic direction can allow the rest of a game to shine.
Game Mechanics Flat and Dull? You really haven\'t played it have you? Fully customizable controls that work like a dream, one of the best online modes for any Wii game (I know that\'s not saying much in context, but still), and an interesting story to work through.
Whether you like the game or not, you have to give props to High Voltage for their work; self-funding and working a new and powerful game engine built from the ground up, for a concept many idiot publishers would look the other way at; that kind of devotion deserves some respect.

Anyway, at the risk of getting of into a never-ending conversation that needed to be done elsewhere, I\'m signing off. Toodles.
