Reggie: Vitality Sensor Will Wow You on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that the Vitality Sensor will have a similar impact to the DS, Balance Board etc.

When the ickle device was revealed at this year's E3 Expo, gamers were a little confused with how it could be utilised in games, and not be some one off dust-collecting peripheral. Speaking to Fast Company, Fils-Aime likens the device to the Wii Balance Board, DS and even the Wii itself: people were initially sceptical but each has been incredibly successful in the marketplace. How? It's down to the games.

Until you have that software, it's tough to understand. If I told you that you would be standing on an oversized bathroom scale, and having fun doing it, you probably would have said, 'Reggie, I don't get it.' And yet here we are with the balance board arguably as the third largest development platform across the globe.

Thanks to Kotaku.

Do you think that the Vitality Sensor could work? What games/franchises do you think Nintendo and third parties could work with?

I dont think even hes that far up his own arse. Surely he cant

It's claiming to know me.
It can't even tell me when I'm needing to go potty.
Unless it can give me a full diagnostic of my body, it's just a heart meter.
I better be proven wrong by some game of some sort that this thing can be used and be revolutionizing.

It\'s shit until proven otherwise. And if it\'s anything like the balance board, that means that Nintendo will give it no support except for a couple of casual games. Smilie

Another quote from Reggie:

\"The whole point of this pulse-monitoring device, is finding a new audience, one who hasn\'t yet been compelled with the first-person shooter, or an action side-scrolling adventure, or a fitness game.\"

So they\'ve got the hardcore, they\'ve got the casuals. Now what? Pregnant women?

\"Now your unborn child can play along, with help from the Vitality sensor. For evey heart beat from your child, Mario gets a piece of food. If Mario dies, then....oh well! Onto the next player!\"

I think he does, simply because the Balance board has sold more units than the PS3 has worldwide...(not sure if thats true, but that's what he'd be referring to)

That's pretty scary. I expect some really good horror games to be the first (or most eager) to use this to their advantage.

I'm guessing a 1st person adventure game should use this nicely.

Diablo II
"I'll make weapons from your bones!" - The Smith Paladin: I will cleanse this wilderness. Deckard Cain: Stay a while and listen!

Reggie's paid to say crap like this, just ignore him ;p

My only question would be, if the Balance Board has sold that much then why haven't we seen more dedicated games for the device? I can't recall any other popular title that uses it besides Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus.

Outside of Nintendo, there's Shaun White's Snowboarding and EA's Skate It. There's also several terrible 3rd party shovelware like WiiSki which probably sold well to the casuals.

When do I get my Samoan dick punching privileges back? If any time calls for it, it's now.

Whys everyone hitting into Regee here?

He just stated a fact. We might not like WiiFit and that, but that dosnt change the fact as to how many it sold.

Whats more, he even specified "arguably" as a precursor, meaning he knows some might not interpret it that way.

Last update; Mice,Plumbers,Animatronics and Airbenders. We also have the socials; Facebook & G+

When they announced the Wii Balance Board, they also showed off a piece of software that uses it. That being WiiFit. It was also obvious as to what other games it could used for (snowboarding, skateboarding etc.)

This device however is different. They announced it with nothing to show with it which is stupid. No one really knows what it's capable of. They should have waited till the software was ready before announcing it.

what do you need a vitality sensor for?

Mario, Mega Man and Rayman FTW!!!

Why be making only negative arguments, why not think of what could be done instead of bashing it (which in terms is bias). I could think of great ideas that the device can be used for.

MadWorld 2 - Madworld is supposed to have a 'goregasim' thing and with each successful kill why not get a boost.
Resident Evil - make the characters life dependent on the players heartbeat.
That GC sequel (Eternal Darkness i think) - That game was based on scaring/freaking out the player.
Hacked games - people joke around on it being able to make a sex game, do it or shut the - up.

The negative sides - don't know how it will be used with the fact that the Vitality sensor takes up the attachment needed for the nunchuk, why not make a peripheral to allow two plug-ins at the same time.

When all is bad don't look for a easy way out. Because you wont know what to do once your out
