In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz SEGA have told that they are still interested in exploring motion control - and they're not just restricting themselves to Wii, either, with a desire to reach across to the new motion control offered by Nintendo's rivals, too.
Managing director of development in Europe Gary Dunn stated that the company would now be looking forward to developing for Microsoft's Natal and Playstation motion control, and presumably Wii and MotionPlus will also continue to be a part of their plans. Proclaiming SEGA as Wii's largest third party publisher, it is hoped that this level of support will allow them to cross over to other formats more easily than others.
Dunn also considers that new genres will be opened up by the shift towards motion on all systems. "I want to go away and lock myself in a dark room with some of our cleverest chaps and see what we can do with it. We've got to look in different directions to almost throw history away and it requires a whole new way of thinking. We've got to ask what can we do with this, because completely different genres of games could open up."
Despite the support, Dunn refuses to commit to any one platform at this point and instead is focusing on how they can best utilise development across all three formats. "You can opt to design a system around commonality so you have efficiency when you grow out your game design across platforms, or you can develop a different development process for each system. Time will tell which path we take."
