Super Mario All-Stars Making a Return?

Super Mario All-Stars Making a Return? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

A recent trademark renewal for Super Mario All-Stars has started some speculation into a re-release or portable port.

Super Mario All-Stars, known in Japan as Super Mario Collection, was a compilation of classic Mario platformers with several enhanced remakes. So far these individual games have made it onto the Wii Virtual Console, but the collection hasn't (it wouldn't quite make financial sense!)

Some have speculated a DS/DSi release perhaps, or a remake in a similar vein to Kirby Super Star Ultra - the DS remake of the NES classic, Kirby Super Star.

What do you think Nintendo could do with Super Mario All-Stars?

THAT. WOULD. BE. LOVELY!

Seriously, I think a nice graphical boost is all I need to enjoy the original SMB again. Don't mean to sound like a graphics whore, but they do make a great difference for me when we're talking about NES games.

Super Mario Allstar brought absolutely nothing new to the table and at the time when I was a kid I wasn't that big of a fan of Super Mario's games that came before super mario world BUT still I had to have it and it grew on me. Even today seeing that box art makes me smile and brings back memories, in only a way a nintendo product can.

Would love a proper Mario All-Stars remake, especially if it was spruced up with NSMB graphics. Fingers crossed. Smilie

wow! that looks great! i think i might buy it (if my mom lets me) i really want it! is it for nintendo ds? or wii?

Would love some serious co-op play with a re-make of Super Mario All-Stars... With all the games, especially SMB3!

Cubed3 Member

Wait, the VC games were the remade versions? I thought they were the NES originals...

The VC games ARE the NES originals.

Mario Bros DX on the GBC would be -far- better.
That release really added lots.

I've never played DX, still keeping an eye out for it in second-hand shops. Still, it's pretty much just SMB and (JP) SMB2, right? Both of those are in All-Stars, as well as (US) SMB2 and SMB3.

I don't mind playing SMB and the Lost Levels with NES graphics, but SMB2 and SMB3 really look ugly and the colours look washed out. I first played them on the SNES so maybe I got spoiled. Smilie

They should bring it out on the virtual console. If you've already bought SMS1-3 and Lost Levels, then you should be able to get All-Stars for free. Smilie

OMG! Smilie PLEASE, Ninty! Make it so!

I've been begging ol' Ninty to release an updated and upgraded Mario compilation since I finished Super Mario All-Stars about 16 years ago. Smilie I LOVE that game (and I'm quite irritated they haven't put it on VC yet.:-x )!

I want more Mario games added to the collection (like Super Mario Land 1 & 2, Yoshi's Island, etc.) and I would really like it if they included the additional content and features that were added to the Super Mario Advance series for those respective games (naturally some of it would have to be tweaked). We could finally play the rest of those damn E-reader levels. Smilie

Wide screen support is a no-brainer as well as upgraded visuals to make full use of Wii's ability, but I'm torn as to how I'd like it. Do I want buttery smooth, gorgeous anime style gfx such as in Wario Land: Shake It! or beautiful, full 3D gfx such as New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Hmmmmm...

Regardless, I would LOVE it if they included Wario Land 1-4 as a major bonus. Smilie Smilie

Chance favors the prepared mind.

If it's for DS, it'll be practically a must-buy for me, particularly if it's enhanced. On VC, maybe, although I already have SMB:TLL and SMB3 (not to mention SMW and SMW2 for GBA).

Like Gameoverthinker suggested before, stick it on Wii for a budget price with an Online-Sharing Fully Featured Level Editor; I'd snap that up in a heartbeat.

Its Mario Bros + unlockable Lost Levels + extra tasks like Yoshi Eggs hidden in the levels (no actual Yoshi), and Golden Coins to find.
Levels had medels if I remember correctly.

It was also excellently presented...Mario Bros getting a little world map. Even if it was pointless it was a nice touch.

There was also bonus\'s involving being able to compose your own title music, and pictures and stuff that were for use with the gameboy camera.

Nothing truely amazing, but just a really nicely put together package.

If they would ever remake the originals for WiiWare, they shouldn't mess too much with the graphical style. All we need is a higher resolution and maybe some nice effects such as the ones in All Stars.
Please don't use 3D graphics, please don't change the whole look of the game. Half of what we love about it is the nostalgia.
The extras from the AGB games would have to be included.

But if anything, this is probably a DS collection of games.

I\'d much rather they used 3D graphics or totally overhauled the look, as well as adding some content, HeartGold/SoulSilver style. Wouldn\'t be worth a purchase for me otherwise. If I want nostalgia I\'ll break out my original SNES cart.

I would also want this to be a retail Wii game or DS game. Preferably DS. No Wii/DSiWare. It\'d be overpriced and probably have less content.

I'd like Hi-Res 2D. The 3Dness of NSMB and NSMBWii kinda sucks IMO, makes it look really plastic and lifeless.

I would be happy if it were 2D of Wario Shake Dimension quality. Or Super Paper Mario style. I just don't want it looking barely any different to the original...

That would be really awesome, I love Mario all stars Smilie

Yeah, I'm in the "different or totaly the same" crowd here.
I dont see the point of higher-res sprites.
In fact, unless your overhawling the whole thing, I think it would look worse. (hi-res on low res)

I personaly love 3d meshs used in 2d games because it makes the movement -much- more dynamic.
The number of marios moves and the fluidity skyrockets.
Its less about looks and more about movement.
