Nintendo Football Controller Patent on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

A potty-shaped attachment for riding things? A little out there, yes, but a football shaped one for throwing? It's new patent time!

Howard Cheng, Vice President of Research and Development at Nintendo of America, filed the attachment earlier this year. Essentially it's an American football-shaped ball with slots to attach a Wii remote and nun chuck, used to detect body motions with players needing to shift left or right to dodge tackles, with speed dependant on jogging motion. Strap your hand in and the force exerted gives your on-screen player a throw, or two.

What do you think of the idea, could something like this work - or is it another pointless strap-on for Wii owners?

I actually think its one of the more impressive gimmicks... but that won't stop people launching this thing into their TV.

At least it has WM+.

Given Nintendos utter paranoia about people breaking their tvs and sueing them, I dont see this being released unless it comes with glue to stick your hand to the ball. <-- Tells some truly terrible tales.

I..I can't watch porn. My Mommy finds out

This is a ruse to get you to think it is for football games... It is really for a simulator called "Nintentots."

SmilieNintendo is on a patent rampage. It seems to me that there going to patent every idea they have in the closet just so they can sue anyone with a creation that looks remotely similarSmilie It's a good idea as long as the shitty stuff doesn't jump into the market.

If you had nothing at all to say why'd you post?

That's not an invention...that's a ball with a bit missing from it...

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

What the hell? If you want to get that much into the game then go buy a football and throw it with your friends. Its that simple. I'm hardly surprised anymore at all the peripherals that have been in these news lately. I guess its just Nintendo covering their hindquarters.

Luckily, only USA, UK and Japan are ready for a thing like that, since almost no other country gives a damn about Football at all.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
