Okami Returns on Nintendo

Fans of Okami can breathe a sigh of relief as it looks like the adventures in Nippon aren't over yet; Okamiden for the DS!

Revealed via two scans in the latest issue of Famitsu, not much is yet known about Capcom's new game, except that it will be for the world's most popular handheld, and it is most likely a sequel to the original. Okamiden is currently set for a 2010 release in Japan, no word as of yet for other territories.

Update

A handy info translation has trickled in from IGN, confirming that Okamiden is indeed a sequel, fully titled Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou. Taking place a few months after the end of Amaterasu's quest to defeat Yami, this time you'll take control of a new wolf, Chibiterasu, who looks like a miniature version of Ammy. Issun returns to guide Chibiterasu to Sakuya for some form of help.

The combat system is said to resemble that of the original game, of course enhanced by Touch Screen drawing, and you can now have Partner Characters, each with special abilities you need to progress. One such Partner is the Son of Susano, Kuninushi. How the clumsy WoodSword wielding Warrior can end up with a son in a matter of months is one of the things you'll find out.

Okamiden is roughly around 25% complete, and might be in demo form at the Tokyo Game Show later this month.

Update 2

Hmm, you know what? I\'m going to get a DSi alongside this game next year; I want to appreciate those awesome visuals the best way possible. Smilie

Wow. It looks quite nice (from those screen shots) too. The stylus has always been the ideal controller for that game, I really hope they pull it off.

oh wow it look really good

I wanted an Okami for Wii, because I am not fond of playing long games on DS - at least not with my DSphat.
But the point with this game being perfect for stylus is a heavy one. Yes, stylus-gaming... right!
Okay, now I am excited over this, too!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Ah while the brush would work wonders on the DS, I don't play handhelds.

The stylus will be great. While I liked what the Wii Remote brought to Okami, it could be insanely frustrating at times trying to get the game to recognize what you were drawing.

Hope its a new game...the screens look like a port O_O

The middle and right screens don\'t look like locations from the game, I don\'t think it\'s a port.

I can\'t believe this is happening!

As if I needed anything else to assert the fact that the DS is the greatest console ever made, it just got that much greater.

Hells yes!

I still need to get the Wii version. I'll probably grab a used copy for €15 or less. Smilie Hopefully.

One word can describe this: AWESOME!
I never noticed how well Okami would be on the DS using its touch-screen as the brush. The first picture from the left side actually looks pretty much like Okami Wii. I'm glad they didn't change the graphic-style. Haha, this made my day! Smilie <3

Cubed3 really need a 'Heart-Smiley'. Smilie

English isn't my main-language, so I will possibly make some grammatical failures sometimes. But shit happends.

Fantastic!
As this is a new game its now must have.

Its well worth full price. Its as long as Twlight Princess, if not longer. (allthough it does get more repedative/fighting near the end).

Easily one of the best value games you can get at the moment.

Not happy about this bit in particular. I guess Capcom lost their only good directors with Clover, but seriously? Chibiterasu? That's an awful name! Sounds to me like it has little basis in Japanese mythology... I was hoping it would focus once again on Ammy, I guess the cliff hanger will have to wait even more...

gimme a wii version...

would be much better Smilie

Suh-weeeet! Smilie Would\'ve been much better if it were for Wii. Never the less, this is awesome news! Definately picking up this baby. lol

It\'ll make a great companion to the new white DSi I intend to purchase (now that Ninty\'s FINALLY releasing a white one Smilie )

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Wikipedia has a good bit of info on the game already, for anyone who wants to know a bit more. And yes, the info is sourced, but for the stuff that needs to be translated it may not be fully reliable for a couple of days as the article is presumably still very new.

Still, interesting stuff.

This is going to kick so much arse! Hopefully it'll sell like ice cold lemonades in a desert and give Clover heaps of credit for the franchise they started! Who knows they end up making more Okami's? Smilie SmilieSmilieSmilie (I know clover is gone but the people involved could do a project on this)*wishful thinking*

Well Platinum are a third party and after their 3 game deal with SEGA, who knows what they could do? Smilie

Dang, that looks ace in the footage. The Framerate has me concerned, but they have sufficient time to speed that up methinks. Smilie

...or is that just my computer speed? This makes it look okay;

I think it looks great in motion, but we'll have to wait for TGS for more.

Also, Chibiterasu doesn't look half bad, it looks almost sickingly cute though!
