CEO Wants Netflix on Wii Eventually

CEO Wants Netflix on Wii Eventually on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Speaking recently, the CEO of movie service Netflix has stated his desire to get the service live on Wii. There has been much speculation about the movie rental company bringing its immensely popular service to systems other than the Xbox 360, but now CEO Reed Hastings has clearly stated his intentions for where his company will be heading next. When asked by Reuters about the PS3 and Wii he responded as follows:

Eventually we want to be on all the game consoles, all the Blu-ray players, all the Internet TVs. So we are working in parallel with all of those efforts. Currently our Xbox deal is exclusive and we haven't characterised it more than that.

Will you consider using the service when it finally hits Wii?

Given the Wii is the most widely installed Internet TV device, a Netflick channel would be a no-brainer.

And, no, I dont see hard drive space as a problem. Most TV/Films shows I watch once, and then maybe again a few
-years- later. 32GB memory cards will be a decent price within the next 6 months anyway.

I already use Netflix streaming all the time, so being able to watch movies on my Wii would just save me the hassle of having to connect my laptop.

I hope the exclusivity of the Netflix deal ends soon. It will be a year later this fall, so maybe it was just a 1 year deal. Otherwise I'm not sure why he would be discussing it right now if the possibility was several years away.

You're thinking pretty much in the same way as I am. It's been rumoured for a long while, but expressing his desire openly like this at this time to show it WILL happen at some point kind of points towards something happening in the next few months, I reckon.
