Shiren 4 Announced for Nintendo DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Random dungeon and shipwecked island antics ahoy - Shiren's back in his forth game, due for Nintendo's DS this winter.

This week's issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu revealed more Shiren loving for Nintendo. Thanks to TinyCartidge for the translation.

  • Chunsoft returns to the developer seat, joined by Dragon Quest composer Koichi Sugiyama.
  • Island setting with a shipwrecked Shiren and Koppa. Day and night cycles with different monsters, variable vision distance and other effects depending on time of day. Lots of banana eating.
  • Randomly generated dungeons, using whatever's at your disposal to get through.
  • Some monsters have a visible "aura" to indicate enhanced abilities. At a later point Shiren will learn a new tech move alongside normal attacks, for specials/combos.
  • Spike to publish in Japan, instead of SEGA. Due out this winter.
  • Box art for Shiren 4

I saw '1 comment' and thought it had to be you...and it was! Smilie

Great to see SEGA giving the series another shot. It's a shame obviously the Wii sales were not quite good enough to warrant this fourth outing be on a home console again.
