Epic Mickey Due for Wii in 2010 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Epic Mickey will feature Disney's mascot doing battle with lesser known characters from the company's history, hell-bent on revenge for being forgotten. As such, the game will take a darker tone; a more 'Steampunk' setting if you will.

US magazine GameInformer has revealed some pretty impressive concept art, featuring Mr. Mouse holding a paintbrush, said to be the main game mechanic - not unlike that of Okami.

Update

More info on what to expect from Epic Mickey have emerged, with rumours of Oswald the Rabbit's return proving true. Oswald runs a forgotten world where the forgotten Disney characters and fairground rides end up, and he wants revenge on Mickey for his continuing popularity. The Mouse of the House will have paintbrushes, erasers, pencils and other artistic utensils at his disposal, each mapped to select Wii remote movements, and he will be designed with a more retro look in mind. Oswald unleashes the Phantom Blot, who then attempts to take over Mickey's world, and through many puzzle, adventure, and exploration elements, Micks sets out to stop him.

Yeah and Pixar's involved alongside Disney Feature Animation.

Saw this on Ign last night. I think it's awesome news, the console needs it's exclusives, and since it's disney, it's bound to sell well.

The paintbrush is making me think it'll play like Okami, but we'll wait and see.

I'm thinking the ingame visuals will look stunning with this style. Can't wait till the 28th to see what it looks like.

"not unlike that of Okami"?... just like "like Okami" :p Regardless Dinsney have brought us good games before like World of ilusion or "The Lion King" for megadrive (screw Kingdom Hearts!). I'm really looking forward to this one but i hope the hype dosn't bring another Conduit let down. Also not worryed if it plays like Okami, Okami was good. :3

The concept art I saw way back a few months was great. I am so happy it's coming to Wii. I hope they implement it well and push away the kawaii-Wii-Disney-look other approaches would have used. I am very surprised they pull off a dark Disney game and even go further then Kingdom Hearts. This one I look forward to!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

When it says battling lesser known character's from the company's history, that could actually mean any Disney Characters. That would be awesome to have characters from "Sword in the Stone" or "The Rescuers" taking revenge for being forgotten.

The concept sounds really good. I hope they don't mess up.

Ordinarily, I despise Disney merchandise. However, my friend swears that if it's by Warren Spector, he would buy it "if Satan himself were selling". Knowing that... well... if it's a truly good game, I may just have to check it out.

I am very skeptical on the idea, but I feel that it may need a new title.

Mario, Mega Man and Rayman FTW!!!

Kingdom Hearts minus Nomura's Gay characters minus Square's retarded battle System equals YAHOOOOO !

I like the Disney universe but never was too much into the Kingdom Hearts series.

Like Stulaw, i'm expecting an awesome adventure game that plays like Okami.

I never thought I'd be so excited for a Disney game.

This game sounds incredible. I can't wait to find out more information.

It is going to be a masterpiece. It's at the top of my wish list, even above Zelda and Metroid Other M.

I am keeping an eye on this, but we honestly don't know what this game will be about. People claiming this is super dark/mature may need to wait until gameplay videos are released. I don't think Disney would alienate a large portion of their audience with a teen/mature game. I'm thinking something along the lines of Kingdom Hearts, but with a Western art style instead of Eastern and action adventure rather than RPG.

I can\'t wait to see how this plays. @D

I disagree about the battle system. It was fun and engaging. I do however agree about Nomura. The Organisation XIII (black-cloaked guys) are annoying. I wouldn\'t use the term \'gay\' myself but I do agree that less Nomura would be much better.

We're all judging by the concept art, which has been anything but kid oriented. Just do a Google Image Search for Epic Mickey.

Well it's on the Wii so I'm gonna assume there's a 99% chance it will suck ass. What a shame.

You are such a troll

Some of the other articles mention that no one knows what Mickey looks like yet in the game. That is also why the concept art only shows him from the back. I would have to guess his look will be unveiled at the event at the end of the month. Apparently, it is a retro-style Mickey Mouse.

I like the idea that the forgotten world includes forgotten Disney Rides. This game sounds like it is going to be nuts. *crosses fingers*

Game informer has removed the info of this game being a Wii exclusive from it's site.

Either they weren't supposed to reveal that, or something has chanced...

You guys are way too easy to troll, it's not even fun. Seriously though, I don't really have any interest for this game, why is everyone so excited?

Wii fanboy: "OMG GAMES SHOULDN'T BE MATURE THEY SHOULD BE COLOURFUL LOL!"

*Epic Mickey announced*

Wii fanboy: "Fuck yeah 'dark' mature games"

Does anyone really think Disney are going to produce a dark and epic mickey game? Not much point trying to make an epic game on the Wii. You can tell me I'm bashing the Wii all you want, but if you've experienced any "epic" games on the 360/PS3/PC in the last 3 years, I doubt anything the Wii is going to churning out is going to feel epic.

Cue the downvoting.
