Sony: Nintendo's Profits Will be Ours

Sony Europe's CEO Andrew House touched upon some of the Wii's problem hardware sales compared to the rise in sales of Sony's PS3 console in a recent interview.

"I think at a time when we're seeing one of the major competitors somewhat losing a sense of momentum - at least in many of the markets I've looked at"

When asked about which competitors he meant, he returned with: "From data that we're starting to see, in some of the publicly-released figures, we're seeing a significant year-on-year downturn for the Wii."

Whilst it is true that Sony is undoubtedly doing better this year compared to previous years, Can Adam House be believed with previous brash statements that the PS3 will overtake Nintendo’s Wii in the next few years, or will Christmas breathe new life into the Console with new games on the horizon?

    Thanks to NintendoLife

Well, after 3 yrs of constant outselling it's natural you start selling less, specially in rough time as now. What Sony need to think is, they dropped the price too and outsold them by almost 300.000 units in the US last month. But, how long til Sony over takes? That's still way off.

And Nintendos made a profit on each and every one of those Wiis.
Must be eating them up inside.

Sony needs to sale more games per system. I wouldn't be surprised if they havnt even broken even yet.

I doubt it. Sure I bought a PS3 and several games last week, but that doesn't mean that the Wii will stop selling and the PS3 will start selling 4 million consoles a month...

Last I checked, Sony wasn't even beating Microsoft, let alone Nintendo.
If the Wii is experiencing a downturn, it's probably because most of the people who wanted one have been able to get one, coupled with the fact that Nintendo hasn't released a killer app in a LONG time. This will change, though. With the release of New Super Mario bros., Other M, and the eventual Legend of Zelda, there will likely be a further increase in Wii sales. In the meantime, Sony still has very little to offer. God of War 3 will likely help; but I'm willing to bet that two out of the three games I mentioned above outsell even that.

Have you seen that the Wii sold 1.5 million in thanksgiving week in the US? It's one week.

justonesp00lturn - I think the next major boast will come mid next year when the waves of good motion plus games start coming. Not so much Zelda and Metroid, but more the 3rd party stuff thats taken this long.
WiiSports Resort showed of the tech, but really it hasnt made much more of an impact yet.

Andrezao - 1.5m UNITS, not Wiis. Only 550,000 Wiis. The rest were DS.

Darkflame - Have any specific examples? Nothing particularly huge is coming to my mind, as far as third party games go.

Well honestly... it's possible, Nintendo isn't getting any good games. Until next year when we see the new home console Zelda and Metroid Nintendo won't be doing so good.

This is probably one of the dumbest things ever posted.

Yeah, but by the same token, they haven't BEEN releasing anything amazing, and it hasn't hindered their sales much.
