    Nintendo Rules Thanksgiving

In continuing the positive sales news-fest for Nintendo of America, it seems that the company has sold a massive amount of systems during a holiday period yet again - though not quite as many as last year.

Nintendo sold 1.5 million consoles and handhelds last week during Thanksgiving in the United States. That roughly breaks down to 550,000 Wii consoles and 1 million DS units. However, this figure has declined from the peak 800,000 Wii’s they sold during the same period last year.

It's not entirely clear how both competitors' sales stand up to Nintendo at this point. Sony’s PlayStation 3 sold 440,000 units. Microsoft claims that sales of Xbox 360 more than doubled in sales over the previous week - though they have not released exact data.

Even though Nintendo’s sales have declined a little since last year, it obviously hasn't affected sales as badly as it could have done in this volatile economy - and the price drop hasn't exactly hindered it. It shows that that people are still willing to spend and splash out a little on home entertainment systems for the family to enjoy. With Christmas on the horizon, will it better the sales from Thanksgiving? And do you think more families will engage in Wii related gaming during this joyous period?

I think this gives people a way to have less expensive fun with their families, friends, or themselves. No trips to Albania this years kidsSmilie

I think they could have beaten last year's total had they released the Black Wii over there.
