Nintendo's Wii Breaks UK Record

Figures released today courtesy of the UK’s leading independent music, video and software performance and sales tracking company, Chart Track-GfK, show Nintendo’s home console, Wii, has now sold more than six million units in the UK alone since launch. The landmark figure, achieved in less than three years on sale, makes Wii the fastest selling video game console in UK history and the quickest ever to reach six million units sold. Wii was originally launched in the UK on 8th December 2006 and officially passed six million UK sales week ending 28th November 2009.

From the GfK Chart-Track UK total market estimates, Wii passed through six million sales in the UK as of week 48, 2009 making it the fastest selling home console in UK history and the quickest to achieve six million UK sales. For reference, Wii launched in week 49, 2006.
