Following what appeared to be a slower than expected start, the fourth Layton game has rebounded. After selling 140,000 units on its first day, according to Famitsu, which when compared to its highly successful predecessors did not seem quite as high as expected, Layton Kyouju to Majin no Fue has more than doubled that initial figure to top 300,000 units and claim No.1 in Japan this week. Hudson's second Monopoly-esque game for Wii is the only other new entry into the Top 10, performing far better than the first title and landing at No.5 with around 44,000 sales, whilst Wii Sports Resort jumps back into the Top 10 and New Super Mario Bros. continues its impressive rise back up the chart (up to No.17 now) in the wake of the Wii version's impending release.

Check out all the data below, with last week's positions in brackets and sales figures where available:

That\'s great news! Smilie Tis a shame we won\'t see this game till 2011/2012.

I read that the 5th game will shake up the gameplay quite a bit which should be interesting. Smilie

Nope, it actually released today (well, on December 3rd, which means it was available a few hours ago) in Japan.

Let's wait for the 1st day sales on THAT one...

Wii overtook the PS3, I saw this coming, the numbers getting closer and closer to each other, guess now with NSMBWii out, it might move some more hardware.
