After many years of rumour and speculation, it has finally been confirmed that Michael Jackson worked on the soundtrack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA MegaDrive. The latest issue of Black & White magazine, a French publication that is dedicated to the late singer Michael Jackson, features an interview Brad Buxer, the man credited as being behind SEGA's Sonic 3 soundtrack. Buxer confirms the much talked about similarities between certain Michael Jackson songs and the tunes in Sonic, stating that Michael Jackson originally contacted him for his help.
Black & White: Can you clarify the rumour that Michael had in 1993 composed the music for Sonic 3 video game, for which you have been credited?
Brad Buxer: I've never played the game so I do not know what tracks the developer kept from what Michael and I both worked on, but we did compose music for the game. Michael called me at the time for help on this project, and that's what I did. And if he is not credited for composing the music, it's because he was not happy with the resulting sound coming out of the console. At the time, game consoles did not allow for optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music...
Black & White: One of the surprising things in this soundtrack is that you can hear chords featured in Stranger in Moscow, which was supposed to have been composed later.
Brad Buxer: Yes, Michael and I had composed those chords for the game, and it has been used as base for Stranger in Moscow.

For those who have not seen it, there is a YouTube video that shows the comparisons made between various Sonic 3 songs and Michael Jackson's music. Check the video clip out here.

Not only that, but here SoE\'s community manager (known by the community as ArchangelUK/AAUK) points out this fact has actually been \"public knowledge\" for quite some time.
I guess noone bothered checking the trivia section on SEGA Ultimate MegaDrive Collection
To be honest I had never seen any mention of it before myself.
SEGA should try to make important info like that more conspicuous!

I think most composers would feel that way about Sonic really.

This kind of echos Jackson's involvement in The Simpsons. Everyone was pretty sure it was him despite the silly name attributed to him and trivia books confirmed it but no one was positive until much later.

You'd probably give birth to yourself 1000 times over until you sprout wings to fly away into the fading sun, that or you'd just turn into a lesbian. Who knows @_@ - L, 12/06/09
