The creator of Link, Mario, Donkey Kong and many other characters, Shigeru Miyamoto, has won an award in Japan. The 57-year-old Nintendo stalwart has been given the Japanese 'Lifetime Achievement' accolade due to all his work and success over the years. On top of this, Nintendo saw both its Wii and DS systems receive the 'Distinguished Service' award due to them having "further expanded the horizons of gaming culture."

With Miyamoto-san still going strong, creating the likes of Pikmin, Wii Sports and Wii Fit, there is clearly plenty more to come from the man many developers over the years have received their inspiration from.
