With New Super Mario Bros. Wii taking No.1 in the UK last week, a couple of other Nintendo favourites have climbed up as well. Whilst the multiple SKU chart has Call of Duty still at the top of the pile, with the likes of FIFA 10 and Assassin's Creed II also pushing Nintendo's latest Mario down, on the Individual Formats list, it shows that the best-selling single-format title for the week in the UK is none other than New Super Mario Bros. Wii for the second week, whilst Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus climb up to make it a Nintendo Top 3.

Below is Chart-Track UK's spiel regarding the general UK Top 40, whilst under that is the Top 20 Individual Formats chart:

Sales of 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' are down 7%, but the record-breaking title from Activision Blizzard manages to stick to its guns at the top of the All Formats Chart for a 4th consecutive week, despite another strong surge from 'FIFA 10' (+24%) which dribbles past 'Assassin’s Creed II', climbing 2 places to No2. Last year 'Call of Duty: World at War' managed 5 weeks at No1 before being overtaken by 'FIFA 09' for the coveted Christmas No1 spot. Ubisoft's 'Assassin's Creed II' and Nintendo's 'New Super Mario Bros. Wii' both fall one place to No's 3 and 4. Nintendo however are nicely positioned at No's 5 and 6 with 'Wii Sports Resort' and 'Wii Fit Plus' enjoying strong sales jumps of 30% and 21% respectively.

Xmas No1 contender 'Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games' (+28%) is a non-mover at No7 ahead of 'Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues' which gatecrashes the Top 10, up from No12 to No8 with an impressive 74% sales spike. Two very different racing titles round off the Top 10 with 'Forza Motorsport 3' (+27%) a non-mover at No9 and 'Mario Kart Wii' (+24%) up one place to No10. Retailer promotions of 'Batman: Arkham Asylum' (+122%) helps it back into the All Formats Top 40 at No20. The Wii version of 'Peppa Pig: The Game' (+384%) helps launch it back into the Top 40 at No21, while another Ubisoft title – 'Just Dance' (+290%), struts its stuff in its second week of release, entering the Top 40 for the first time at No30. The only brand new game to make the Top 40 is EA's 'The Saboteur' at No39.

TOP 20 - INDIVIDUAL FORMATS (UNITS), WEEK ENDING 5 December 2009
1.) NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. WII (WII, NINTENDO)
2.) WII SPORTS RESORT (WII, NINTENDO)
3.) WII FIT PLUS (WII, NINTENDO)
4.) CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (360, ACTIVISION)
    5.) ASSASSIN'S CREED II (360, UBISOFT)
6.) CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (PS3, ACTIVISION)
7.) MARIO & SONIC AT OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES (WII, SEGA)
    8.) ASSASSIN'S CREED II (PS3, UBISOFT)
    9.) FIFA 10 (360, EA SPORTS)
    10.) FIFA 10 (PS3, EA SPORTS)
    11.) FORZA MOTORSPORT 3 (360, MICROSOFT)
12.) MARIO KART WII (WII, NINTENDO)
13.) PROFESSOR LAYTON AND PANDORA'S BOX (DS, NINTENDO)
    14.) LEFT 4 DEAD 2 (360, EA GAMES)
    15.) F1 2009 (WII, CODEMASTERS)
16.) LEGO BATMAN: THE VIDEOGAME (360, WARNER BROS.)
    17.) PURE (360, DISNEY INTERACTIVE)
18.) MARIO & SONIC AT OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES (DS, SEGA)
19.) DR. KAWASHIMA'S BRAIN TRAINING (DS, NINTENDO)
20.) GRAND THEFT AUTO EPISODES - LIBERTY CITY (360, TAKE-2)

Sadly Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles are still underperforming, whilst the new Shaun White on Wii leaps upwards, but still fails to make much of an impact on the Wii-specific Top 40. Check out all the charts here.

Why does Cubed3 replace many symbols with '?'? Like €: the euro symbol.

Not sure why - best to ask Jorge. Must be something to do with the encoding on different pages. I've just gone in and manually typed in all those apostrophes and it's fine now Smilie

Anyway, back on topic - the main contender for Christmas No.1 is apparently Mario & Sonic. It's been getting lots of air time on TV, so maybe it'll rise more. I still think the trio of NSMB, WSR and WF+ are forces to be reckoned with.

It\'s how firefox (and maybe some other browsers) represent symbols from Microsoft Word. It happens with \"smart quotes\" and long dashes for me.

Considering NSMB:W, WFP and WSR were all released this year, I don\'t think you can say that Nintendo hasn\'t been releasing big games this year. How many other companies have all three top games at one time?
