Pastagames Implore Pirates to Buy Maestro! Jump in Music

Whilst it hasn't been the biggest and well known release in recent months, Maestro! Jump in Music has however gained generally positive reviews, from various publications. Unfortunately, that success can't be carried over to the retail of the game, with the game already been leaked out on the internet and downloads inevitably affecting sales of it.

Posting on the Maestro! Jump in Music blog, an employee at Pastagames implored pirates and others to buy the game and told of how pirating it affects them and others involved in making it.

We have spent 3 years making this game, fighting to actually get it out in the shops, invested the few dollars and dimes we have saved up, convinced our friends from Neko to jump in with us, had BigBen distribute the game over Europe... and all this for merely 3 weeks of commercial exposure.

A lot of people believe that when a NDS game is sold, the money goes to Nintendo and they already have enough money! but it isn't true!

Nintendo didn't invest a kopek in the game, and if it is not sold enough, it is Pastagames, Neko & Bigben who will pay the bill.

The consequences are simple, we are forced to keep making games for others, Baby games, teddy bear and pony games to survive, and we won't be able to create new and original games for players to enjoy.

The problem isnt just pirates though, much of the problem is the "3 week commercial exposure"
Unless your a big game, you got a tiny sales window before you go in the bargain basement bins. Demand needs to come in quick, else your forgotten about.

And, I think I speak for most gamers when I say sometimes release data dont correlated at all to our free time.
Digital Distribution...with its infinite shelf space...will one day help fix this problem.

But in the meantime we can just hope people buy what they enjoy playing.
(personaly, I dont see a problem with pirates as long as they are honest and treat it only like a demo)

Another company mistakenly equating pirated copies to lost sales.

I've never heard of it, but I doubt pirates are the main reason why the sales are low.

But releasing on Wiiware or DSware may assuage some publication and expenditure problems when releasing smaller, unique games.

Should've bought a violin with those dimes to go with your sad, sad story. Failing that, get a better publisher.

Yeah, the fact that nobody knew this game existed may also be a contributing factor. Good luck buying your kids Christmas presents, all those who work for Pastagames Smilie

I bet most of the downloads were out of curiosity anyway. Besides, pirating probably boosted sales. I'm sure there were a few who downloaded the game, enjoyed it and then bought it. It's similar to fan-subbing, would anime have such a following in the west if fan-subs weren't readily available?

I wonder if their sales will rise in Somalia?Smilie
