Nintendo Grabs UK Top 3 Again

The latest chart listings for the UK market have been released by Chart Track UK, showing Nintendo is dominant yet again. Whereas last week saw New Super Mario Bros. become the biggest selling individual format title of the week here in the UK, this week sees Mario tumble to No.3, whilst Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus climb above to grab No.1 and No.2, respectively. Just behind that trio, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 is No.4, whilst Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games on Wii has benefitted from strong advertising, leaping up to No.5. The biggest new entry on the Nintendo front was The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which lands at No.12, rather lower than Phantom Hourglass did two years ago, but given how crowded the charts are in general now, the position is not too awful. Plus, it is likely to follow the DS and Wii software trend, in that it could jump upwards as the advertising campaign filters through to the masses.

In terms of the multi-format list, where all SKUs of a release are bundled together in sales tracking, the sixth Call of Duty title manages to hold onto No.1 for a fifth week in a row thanks to combined sales across the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Below is the Chart Track blurb about the All FOrmats Top 40, where sales are combined, whilst a bit further down you can see the Top 20 Individual Format sales list, where Nintendo takes four out of the top five places:

Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (-11%) battles on to reign supreme with its 5th week at No1, despite a drop of 11% in sales. Can it hold on for a sixth week to claim Christmas No1, to echo the original Modern Warfare two years ago?

Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort (+17%) enjoys a Christmas resurgence moving up to No2, followed by Assassin's Creed II clinging on to No3 (-3%). Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus (+11%) also steps up the chart to No4, whilst FIFA 10 (-15%) is relegated three places to No5. Mario finds himself at No6 and No7 with Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. Wii (-5%) ahead of Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (+15%). Ubisoft's Just Dance (+274%) pulls off an amazing move to go from No30 to No8 and Microsoft's Forza Motorsport 3 (+15%) continues to cruise at No9. Rounding off the Top Ten is another Mario title, Mario Kart Wii at No10 (+18%).

Link returns to the DS with Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks making its debut at No12 and Ubisoft's James Cameron's Avatar: The Game (+108%) enters the chart at No29 as the release of the highly anticipated film draws near.

I did not get Spirit Tracks yet, while Phantom Hourglass was a first day buy. Even though I knew I couldn't play it... I was trying to profit from the low price.

Same with Spirit Tracks... it's selling for €35. But since I haven't even beat PH, I'll resist the temptation.

I waited about a year to get PH (loved every minute of it, even the Temple of the Ocean King). I definitely want ST, but I will wait a month or so.

In fact, I don't ever buy games the day or week they come out. Usually I wait for them to go on sale or drop in price. I just got Okami and The World Ends With You for 12 USD total because I waited.
