Monster Hunter 3 Wii Delayed in West

Capcom has confirmed a delay for its upcoming localisation of Monster Hunter 3 for Wii. Whereas it was originally set for an early 2010 launch, with support from Nintendo to help bolster the series known as 'Monster Hunter Freedom over here in Western territories, Capcom has decided to delay the rollout of the game due to various reasons. These include:

    • Avoid competing with the major titles that other companies plan to introduce in the 4th quarter,

    • Preserve the value of Capcom’s titles and maximise sales volume,

    • Expand the line-up of titles in the next fiscal year and afterwards.

On top of the news of this delay, previously Capcom had projected sales of two million for Monster Hunter 3, including the US/EU release. Now it has revised its forecasts to remove the US/EU release since it now misses the 31st March, 2010 fiscal cut-off point. Capcom has stated that 500,000 of that initial projection was allocated for the US/EU market, meaning it actually wanted 1.5 million sales in Japan. So far Capcom has only shipped 1.1 million copies to Japanese retailers and sold just over 950,000 units.

Any Monster Hunter fans out there disappointed by the delay?

I was just reading this on IGN and they\'ve delayed alot of games they would have released in the 4th fiscal quarter because of \'competition\'. But I don\'t really see what they\'re worried about on the Wii, I don\'t think there\'s anything that competes with the game besides maybe Red Steel 2 if anything.

Anyway, I\'m sure fans of the franchise will buy it asap, so I doubt sales will be much different, no matter what time of year they release it. Though, the Japanese sales are alot lower than what they expected.

As long as they don't announce it for the PS3 next week, I'm sure it will sell okay in the West. I am planning to get it, but I don't really care when it comes out.

Dont mind, as I would be buying Red Steal2 at that time.

Still, I hope they spend the extra time polishing it for the west rather then just sticking it in a cupboard.
