Final Fantasy XIII Burns Bright in Japan

Square Enix's flagship Final Fantasy series is back atop the Japanese chart, but Mario is close behind. Despite concerns that the limited PS3 userbase might stunt sales of Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix has reportedly shipped two million units to retailers, selling over 1.5 million of those it the game's first week on sale. However, Nintendo and its New Super Mario Bros. Wii title are not far behind. Sales of the new Mario platform title shot up in its third week of release to nearly 570,000 units sold, bringing its total to a stunning ~2 million. Many games received a seasonal boost this week, with Inazuma Eleven 2 and Professor Layton both jumping back into the Top 10, whilst the second Taiko no Tatsujin for Wii bounced back up to No.12 after a disappointingly slow start a few weeks back.

Check out all the data below, as well as the hardware list that shows the PS3 had a massive surge thanks to FFXIII that just about lifted it above the DS family and resurgent Wii:

WOW I'm surprised the Wii pushed 191k, what did they have software wise? Guess this means more 2D mario? SmilieSmilie
I seriously didn't expect the Wii to be only 40k units behind considering the PS3 had it's biggest Hitter out. I was expecting Sony to be on top this week, but adding the numbers you end up with more Nintendo Units sold.

Pretty crazy week, I guess Japan does love DQ more? But I'd rather play my Secret of Mana Smilie
