    Nintendo Becomes More Eco-Friendly

After being slammed by Greenpeace on more than one occasion, Nintendo is now trying to be more eco-friendly. Whilst Microsoft rolled out special recycled game cases back in November 2009, Nintendo has seemingly succumbed to pressure at last and began churning out the new style of game cases that make use of recycled material. The first example of a Wii game case that should get Greenpeace off Nintendo's back is that of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, which is out now in the US.

Check out what the inside of these new cases looks like:

Yeah just saw one. Are those holes?

I think Nintendo can do better. Make the cases like those cardboard digipack cd cases. It would look great and would also take up less space.

Meanwhile Nintendo makes the console with the lowest power consumption.

But Greenpeace doesn't seem like they want to aknowledge that. I wonder if you would count the total pollution per console (cases, power consummed, the console materials, etc), what would be the console which pollutes the most.

And game boxes aren't exactly supposed to be thrown away by the way. Neither are the consoles themselves. It's not like you're likely to find a wii consoloe or game case on the ground in the middle of our beautiful forests. You don't use them like you would biscuits in plastic wrapping.

The biggest problem Greenpeace had with Nintendo was the lack of a (communicated) eco-plan.
Some new cases won't change much about that.

Apparently the whole thing about the Wii consuming less power isn't as a great as you might think, particularly since you are encouraged to leave the console on standby while you aren't playing.. the difference in consumption between a powered-on Wii and a Wii on standby is very little, while a PS3 and Xbox consume a greater amount of energy while playing, they do not have standby functions like Nintendo's little box.

I don't have statistics and evidence for the above, I point out to anticipate the usual "GIEF PROOF NAO" that usually follows when posting on a website. I was told this some time ago, and shown something or other on the internet, an article by some comparison website years ago. Do your own research I say.

Anyway, I hate these cases. Yes, yes, let's save the world, but there are better ways damn it, I don't need repeats of SEGA's horrible collapsable blue Dreamcast cases. Of course, they weren't meant to collapse, that was always the result of flimsy plastic. See above.

These cases are an abomination. Those ARE holes, they feel flimsy, and I really do not care... By the time the world ends I will be long and dead.Smilie

Green pieces critism was mostly nonsense.
    It centered on two things;
    1. Not having a "return consoles" system.
    2. Not having an environmental policy.

While Nintendo could and should improve the fact that the least energy consuming console, made from the least parts, scored worst, shows they just wanted to pick on the most popular product of the moment.

Seriously...only greenpeace could be so stupid as to not factor in energy usage when estimating how "green" something is. (energy to use and to make)
PS3/Xbo360 greener then the Wii? err..

It was just hyperbole to get some press.

the difference in consumption between a powered-on Wii and a Wii on standby is very little,

    Not true.
While you still shouldnt leave you wii on if you dont need too, its akin to leaving on a small lightbulb....far far less then a running console.
We are talking 10-fold difference here.
(mostly due to moving parts of the dvd drive, and the fan being used a lot more).

Its certainly possible for a wii to use more energy then a 360. But youd have to leave it on standby 24/7....and only use your 360 a little.
Also, naturaly, newer model 360s use a lot less power.

I don't see why we're complaining about these holes, there's usually a sheet of paper right there anyway, it was taken out for the picture. Not to mention, I buy games to play the games, not look at the inside of the box with the game's label out...

It'd be funny if they were really expecting us to recycle game cases, I mean, right guys? Smilie

Pretty soon, they'll demand that all consoles run on compost. Then they'll demand that they be made out of bio-degradable material. Just you wait. Pretty soon, we'll end up running out of ammo to launch at the giant trash ball hurtling straight towards us.
It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

Or is it that Greenpeace get free Microsoft licenses for the Windows PCs (PCs that Sony generously gave them so they shut the fuck up, same for Microsoft) they use to proclaim their bullshit ? Smilie
