Nintendo Still No.1 in UK on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

For yet another week, Nintendo has claimed the single format No.1 in the UK market, according to the latest data released by Chart Track UK. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 may have now been atop the joint-formats Top 40, but in the individual format stakes Nintendo has managed to take the Top 3 placings, with Wii Sports Resort climbing above Wii Fit Plus this week, whilst New Super Mario Bros. Wii sticks at No.3 and Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games drops one to No.5. There is disappointing news in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks on DS performing nowhere near as well as Phantom Hourglass, falling out of the Top 20 in just its third week on sale, and Nintendo Presents: Crossword Collection for DS can only enter the DS-specific Top 40 at No.33, but a whole host of Wii games upped their sales thanks to the festive sales period.

EA's FIFA 10 climbed three to No.8, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare continues to prove that Activision's move to bring an upgraded edition to Wii was a wise move as it jumps up another spot to No.9 on the Wii-specific Top 40, James Cameron's Avatar leaps six to No.15 after a slow start, and there are positive moves for other slow starters as well: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (reaching a peak of 20, up six spots), Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (up three to No.31), Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage (rising three to No.32) and the Nintendo-exclusive version of Need for Speed, 'Nitro,' which finally enters at No.34.

Below is the Chart Track commentary based on the joint-formats Top 40, followed by the Top 20 individual formats chart where Nintendo takes the top three spots:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (+17%) looks like it could well see out the year unbeaten at the top of the All Formats Chart as it holds on to top spot for a 7th consecutive week with one week left until 2009 comes to a close. However, closest rival FIFA 10 (+18%) is only 2,000 units behind, a non-mover at No2 and has been closing the gap over the past two weeks. As is usual after Christmas, there are no significant new releases with the Top 10 games jockeying for position amongst themselves. Assassin’s Creed II (+5%) moves up 2 places, back to No3, while Nintendo's big 3 of Wii Sports Resort (-6%) a non-mover at No4, Wii Fit Plus (-13%) down 3 places to No6 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii (-9%) a non-mover at No7, all take slight dips in sales.

A jump of one place up to No5 for Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (+5%) and a strong week for Mario Kart Wii (+21%), holding on to No9, means 3 Mario games have managed to stay in the Top 10 over the past 4 weeks. Ubisoft now have 2 Top 10 titles as James Cameron's Avatar: The Game (+41%) breaks into the Top 10 for the first time, up from No12 to No8. Microsoft's highest charting game is Forza Motorsport 3 (+2%) which manages a Top 10 finish, down from No8 to No10. This week's highest climber is EA's The Beatles: Rock Band (+50%), 'getting better' thanks to price promotions, back in the Top 40 at No26.

When I walk into some games shops, I would think Wii games aren't selling well. I usually have to look for them at the back of the shop behind all the PS3 and 360 games. I was in Gamestation a couple of week ago and it took me a while to find the Wii games. Then when I did it was only a very small collection.

Is it just the shops I go to? Why are they doing this if Wii games are selling well?

Probably because most casuals get their games from Tescos.

One of the games in that list I got, and another one I want to play.
I don't like your taste, most UK game buying peoples.

Btw guys, any sensible list puts MW2 and Fifa 2010 together for sales so they both beat the top 4 Wii games. Just an fyi.
