Nintendo DS Back Above Wii in Japan

An early list from Famitsu has revealed the Top 10 for the final week of 2009 in Japan, and rather unsurprisingly it is New Super Mario Bros. Wii sitting at the top of the pile. No sales figures have been released just yet, but there have been anecdotal reports of major shortages for the game, and yet it still has managed to keep ahead of the remaining challengers. The Top 10 itself is not too dissimilar to that of last week's Media Create list. Since this is Famitsu data, though, obviously the line-up may be subtly different when Media Create comes out with its definitive update. However, the massive jump for both Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and Mario Kart Wii is impressive no matter how you look at it.

    Check out the rankings below:

    Famitsu Top 10 - 28th December, 2009-3rd January, 2010
1.) New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii, Nintendo)
    2.) Friend Collection (NDS, Nintendo)
3.) The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (NDS, Nintendo)
4.) Wii Fit Plus (Wii, Nintendo)
5.) Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Square Enix)

Apparently New Super Mario Bros. is officially sold out in many stores across Japan, along with Wii Remotes (hence the sudden jump in Wii Play sales) and even Wii hardware is running low. With any luck Nintendo will be able to bump the stock levels back up soon to satisfy the high demand.

According to Media Create, the week before it was:

    4.) (1) Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Square Enix) - 188,511 | 1,690,475

So it could well have sold another 120,000 easily. We shall see! Most people I've seen talking about the game don't believe it'll get much passed 2 million.

It's like The Sims meets Animal Crossing...but with Mii characters in. There's even a text-to-voice karaoke mode in it! Search for Tomodachi Collection on YouTube.

Wow, look at sales for the PSP Go. If DS Phat sales were tracked even THAT would outsell it...
