Capcom Still up for Multiplatform Development

Capcom have pledged commitment to being a multi-platform developer in light of recent comments on performance for Wii titles.

The french division's Antoine Seux recently expressed a view that core gamers had "obviously moved on" from the Wii, given worse than expected sales for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

The publisher has since reiterated a promise to continue focusing on all current-generation machines, presumably including Nintendo's Wii.

Further to comments made in a recent article on French website Gamekult, Capcom would like to confirm its commitment as a multi-platform developer and publisher of interactive software

Well it seems to me what most fans want is a resident evil game like the old games with a scary atmosphere and enemies jumping out at you. Like ressi 4 but much scarier with the over the shoulder third person view.
I enjoyed darkside chronicles but I would have preferred either a brand new game or a remake of some of the old games with the 3rd person view.

Multiplatform could just as well mean PS3 and 360(including or excluding Wii), so this is another one of those famous \'no comment\'.

Once again; Resident Evil 4 sold just fine.
And there is a lot more Wii owners now since that was out...far more then could possibly have been countered by people "bored with their Wii's and given them away"

Therefor the potential market for "core gamers" on the Wii is still at least equal to Re4's sales for that genre.
    This isnt rocket-science.

Theres no evidence for non-niche, non-unpopular-genre big budget games doing any worse on the Wii then any other system. Non whatsoever.

They've just said they'll make games for multiple platforms. But that could mean proper games on 360 and PS3 and casual games on Wii. It's hardly a firm commitment to make proper games on Wii.

Commenting on that statement by the French guy, he says Resident Evil 4 sold well because the market "had nothing", and Umbrella Chronicles sold poorly because "there is a much broader audience".
Basically he says their games sell worse because they have to compete with other companies now.

    The poor sods.

(not to mention the massive difference between these games)

If they take care of their own shit, then they shouldn't have anything to worry about. Maybe the marketing hasn't been as good which could be the reason why their games didn't sell as much as they'd like.

I do get the sense that some core gamers(including myself) are beginningto look at other platforms. I don't completely believe that we're gone yet though. Like others have said I haven't sold my wii.

Or maybe their approach needs to be changed. I think what they need to do is to turn these casual gamers into core gamers somehow. The Wii owns the casual market so now its just a matter of converting those casuals to core.

I don't know if Nintendo wants to do that because once they convert the casuals to core then people will probably go on to other systems that tend to their needs. Nintendo needs to let everybody know that they're on the bandwagon for core gamers not by saying, but by doing.

Core gamers haven't "moved on" from Wii, core gamers just don't want fucking rail shooters.

There is a trend for some gamers who are very impatient and will happily use places like ebay CEX game to sell up and invest in new consoles or games for other consoles if another disappoints.

For others their wii gathers dust somewhere in the house.

So the core audience may have dropped but no third party has tested this with a blockbuster non niche game. I think we will get a better picture with the sale of Red steel, metroid, zelda. If they all get good reviews and good advertisement I cant see any reasonable counter argument to turn your nose up at them.

I agree with you there. Red Steel should be a real test to show if marketing works and if there are core gamers on the Wii. Even people who want to sell the Wii might as well end up keeping it. With prices dropping all the time and the Wii is now at its lowest price ever who would buy it? Everyone who wants a Wii probably has a Wii if not will soon.

seriously. Core gamers haven't left; third parties haven't been making core games, and Nintendo is taking forever to make them. New! Super Mario Bros. performed well, and I expect the same of Metroid and Zelda and others. 2009 was a terrible year for the Wii. But for Capcom to blame the gamers for not buying their crappy games is just ridiculous.

I was going to post about monster hunter yesterday but cubed3 was being unresponsive for me.

Surely thats sold over a million by now. And thats in Japan only. Could do 2mill wordwide. Perhaps it only sold because japs couldnt get hold of any other game.
