More US Nintendo Titles Stop Shipping

Last week it was confirmed that Nintendo will stop shipping Metroid Prime Trilogy: Collector's Edition in the US, with some speculating that the company may be replacing them with the New Play Control! Metroid Prime titles. This week it has been discovered that more games will be cancelled in the US.

Coffee with games says that an email sent to them by Nintendo, after inquiring about the following games, stated that:

Mario Strikers Charged (2007), Battalion Wars II (2007), and Wario Land: Shake It! (2008) are no longer being manufactured or shipped to retailers.

It is not clear whether this will have any knock-on effect elsewhere in the world, but considering it was recently revealed that Metroid Prime Trilogy is also being withdrawn in Australia, all signs point to 'yes'. Additionally, a more recent DS release is being dropped in Australia, with Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story being no longer being restocked at retailers as Nintendo is ceasing its distribution over there.

As for the chances of the two New Play Control! Metroid Prime eventually getting a US release, a follow-up email to Nintendo of America's customer services department threw up the following:

At this time, a New Play Control version of the Metroid Prime games has not been announced for release here in North America. More importantly, we do not have any information that tells us this game will or won't be announced...

How do you feel about these games being retired? Are you planning on buying these games before they become rare commodities?

It's ok that Mario Strikes and Batallion Wars aren't being made anymore I guess, but WarioLand still seems so new :/

Silly unless there are loads of copies out there, Nintendo hardly provide any new games yet are taking more off the shelves. Alas Wii Fit and the like are still being produced in their millions. Sad sad day for Nintendo fans. Smilie

I got BWii new for €17,50. They must have had quite some overstock.

And I'd also like to get Wario Land some day. Cheap and used.

Just updated the story slightly, since Vooks has confirmed this is happening in Australia as well - Metroid Prime Trilogy and Mario & Luigi being the targets over there! Smilie Smilie

I know...AND it's the biggest selling in the Mario & Luigi series BY FAR in Japan. But for some reason Nintendo dropped it onto the market in Europe/Aus without much promotion. No support = poor sales Smilie

It does stimulate consumers to buy though... Reminds me of when Namco pulled Soul Caliber for the Dreamcast from the market... A used copy with still net a hefty price (50+ quid). But Nintendo games have a tendency to never really drop in price, so maybe they are trying to keep units from just sitting about.

they could be getting ready for wii 2 or they could be making more room for third party publishers to make core games. At this point its unknown. I hope they announce a massive marketing push for a Player Choice line up with all these games and third party one's. £10-£15 a pop
