Nintendo Begin New Wii Budget Label in Japan on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Previously, and like Sony and Microsoft, the Player's Choice range offered discounted versions of the Gamecube's best sellers.
Everyone's Recommendation Selection (or Minna no Osusume Selection) is similar, but differs on two key points; Data is taken from the Nintendo Channel as to which games qualify by way of those that have earned a Bronze/Silver or Gold rating by users (of which 75 games (!) are now under consideration), and that they have only been shown to be Third Party games thus far; no word on Nintendo's own games as of yet.

So far, 7 games have been named for the new lineup, with all seeing a release in their new forms on February 25th at a price point of 2,800 yen. Names and images below;

- 428 (Sega, Platinum)
- Muramasa Demon Blade (Marvelous, Gold)
- Arc Rise Fantasia (Marvelous, Silver)
- Family Ski World Ski & Snowboard (Namco Bandai, Silver)
- One Piece Unlimited Cruise Episode 1 (Namco Bandai, Silver)
- Tales of Symphonia: Ratatoskr no Kishi (Namco Bandai, Bronze)
- Dragon Ball Z Sparking! Meteor (Namco Bandai, Bronze)

Hope they bring this over here and extend it to Nintendo's own games too; I need to rebuy Twilight Princess, crappy cover or not. Smilie

You know what, although some may not like those re-worked boxes, Nintendo's done well to choose a design that clearly stands out in the crowded retail space. Not bad at all, and great that Third Party games are being focussed on for now!

Nice to show third party love.
Could be hit ad miss using public opinion. But so far some good gems have gotten through.

Need to better publicise how these games make the short list so more gamers can contribute.

Will mario galaxy or zelda ever fall below �£25 on amazon? come on its ridiculous

The covers kinda suck, but atleast it's happening at all. I think the method of choosing them is great too. I really hope this leaves Japan.

Also Nintendo need to pull their heads out of their arses and sell some of their own games as budget titles too. FFS, those money whores.

Another point, while this may be good for the gamers, what about the third parties? It may or may not increase sales, but at a fraction of their original prices how much money will they make?

It's pathetic that Nintendo would put third party games into budget ranges and leave their own prices exactly the same. It's just like they're saying:
"Hey third parties! I know you hardly make any money with the Wii as it is, but here's even less money for you and even more for us! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"

Lulz, how long has it taken them to do this? Platinum games have been available for the PS3 for ages and ages (360 came out a year earlier, so isn't a fair comparison). Their new corporate slogan should be..

It is true that 3rd parties stand to lose out on the profit margin but, in all fairness, if they units are not already moving then they are already taking a profit hit.

Nintendo needs to go global with this.

I'd buy 428, Tales of Symphonia, Muramasa and Arc Rise Fantasia, so great choices to start this.

Look, Nintendo games sell by themselves. This is Nintendo supporting 3rd parties and advertising their games. As satsubatsu347 has said, between no sales and sales at a reduced margin profit, I don't think theses 3rd parties will complain. If it means the games sell an extra 10,000-100,000 copies (depending on the game), then it's great news for 3rd parties.

Other games to consider for this would be No More Heroes, Little King Story and Okami...
