Fans Finish Fatal Frame 4 Localisation

Fans Finish Fatal Frame 4 Localisation on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Fatal Frame: Tsuki Hami Kamen may never be localised officially outside Japan, yet a group of dedicated fans have produced their own.

The game was originally to be translated however Nintendo decided not to - and it's looking that way for the foreseeable future. It is unofficially playable in English now, thanks to group of Fatal Frame fans. By patching the game's data, an SD card and an external drive, owners of the game are able to replace all the in-game text with English.

If a group of coders are able to quickly translate a game, surely Nintendo can get its finger out to bring key releases to Europe, and the US in particular. Granted there is a lot more that goes into producing a retail game, but there are thousands of consumers gagging for various titles that Nintendo can easily provide.

If you are able to get hold of the game, be sure to try out the patch.

Could you imagine the trouble this could cause? Games being translated and patched well before companies even decide whether or not to ring them to other territories. Smilie

On the other hand, this and similar instances may be the kick in the pants these jerks need to close the excessive gap in releases across all territories. Smilie

What is very interesting in this case is how the translation will not work with copied versions of the game. You actually have to own the original Japanese title!

Obviously some clever hacker will bypass that, but it's nice to see the good intentions of the original translation crew to try and stimulate sales of the game further.

For reference, those that aren't aware might be interested to know that Fatal Frame 4 on Wii is the best-selling entry into the Tecmo series! Yes, it more than doubled the sales of the original, and has easily flown by FF2 and FF3, even though some thought its sales of ~80,000 units were signs of it being a disappointment! Smilie

Oh, and Tecmo told Cubed3 ages ago that FF5 was being worked on...so that's something to look forward to as well Smilie

Ps I forgot to say I've tried places like EBay and Amazon to no avail. Thanks

LuckyLust (guest) 22.01.2010 15:08#4

Where can u get a copy? There are no import places where I live. Thanks

Off the top of my head, you could try either Yes Asia or Play Asia. Just Google them as I can't remember the exact addresses off-hand.

Good luck!

Mmm - PlayAsia's a good place for imports, generally fairly priced and arrives on time. Depends on where you're based though? If you're US I'm sure there must be a good few import sites

Good news that a legit copy of the game is needed, at least it's "legal" in some ways!
