Nintendo has confirmed it is working with Mistwalker on a Wii RPG called The Last Story. Mistwalker previously worked with Nintendo on A.S.H.: Archaic Sealed Heat for DS, before also releasing AWAY: Shuffle Dungeon and Blue Dragon Plus also on the Nintendo DS, along with the upcoming Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow. After various trademarks cropping up for The Last Story, along with speculation being rife after Mistwalker edited an official blog image to remove a Wii development kit fans had spotted and also stated it was working on a 'Triple-A' product alongside its iPhone project, this does not come as a major surprise...yet it is definitely great news for Wii owners hoping for more traditional RPGs.
The official teaser website for The Last Story has now been released and features some gorgeous music than could well be the work of Hironobu Sakaguchi's former Square Enix colleague Nobuo Uematsu (now at Smile Please). Set for release in Japan sometime in 2010, this latest RPG from the man behind the Final Fantasy series, is set to take a new direction for the role-playing genre and will have a theme that involves the universal feelings all of humanity shares.
Additionally, Sakaguchi-san has added a new entry to the Mistwalker blog saying:
New project is going to be announced after a long time. More information will be available in stages. Don't miss it. Well...I've got to get back to work on balancing battle system...Production is near the final phase.
Clearly this blog is going to be a key source for finding out new information on the game, so be sure to keep a close eye on it, or to Cubed3 since updates will be posted here as often as possible to keep readers up-to-date.
