Nintendo Wii Passes Million in Korea on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo of Korea has confirmed that its Wii has passed a new landmark in sales over in South Korea. As well as the Nintendo DS family crosses the three million mark, Wii has now moved more than a million units in the territory that shuns the likes of Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable, as well as Microsoft's Xbox 360 in favour of the PC world.

The company also revealed some lifetime sales updates for various game releases:

  • Wii Sports (Wii) - 290,000
  • Wii Fit (Wii) - 240,000
  • Wii Music (Wii) (only released in December, 2009) - sales progressing strongly
  • New Super Mario Bros. (DS) - 460,000
  • Brain Training (DS) - 400,000
  • nintendogs (DS) - 310,000
  • English Training (DS) - 240,000
  • Magical Chinese Letters Training (developed by a Korean developer) - 110,000
  • A further 16 games have crossed 100,000 sales
Given how Microsoft and Sony have failed in Korea, what are readers thoughts on how Nintendo has penetrated the PC-centric market?

I bet there's a loooooooooot of piracy going on. The Wümotes I accidentily bought (and returned) were apparently from Korea.

But at least Nintendo is smart enough to sell their hardware with profit. Smilie
