Netflix has expressed hopes for success in bringing its platform to Wii owners, but stating they aren't missing much with the lack of HD.
In an audio interview with The Wiire, Vice President of Corporate Communications Steve Swasey spoke on how the lack of HD streaming on Nintendo's console is not a "deterrent for Wii families."
We think that the desirability of watching movies instantly on the Wii via Netflix is a wonderful opportunity for Wii homes. And so we think it's going to be very well adopted.
In an odd move to quash concerns about the lower quality picture, Swasey devalues Netflix's own HD service, so that "Wii folks aren't going to miss that much."
"PS3 and Xbox users have 1 in 17 titles available in HD, and it's streamed in 720... it's not in 1080, and it's not in 5.1 surround sound or anything.
So, the HD experience at Netflix Instant Watching isn't that overwhelming. It's a little bit underwhelming.

Will you be using Netflix on your Wii - or do you prefer another format for your viewing needs? PC streaming, renting a DVD or even going to the ol' cinema?

I'm an avid user of Netflix Watch Instantly and I'll definitely be using my Wii for streaming once they ship out the streaming discs. It'll be much easier than having to hook up my laptop to the TV every time I want to watch something.
The selection of movies is just ok, but the selection of TV shows is pretty good. The quality of the non-HD streams is easily as good as DVD (with the exception of some older movies, but that is most likely an issue with the quality of the source material that is being encoded).
EDIT: I am surprised that they are talking negatively about their own HD selection though. However, the issue of not having many HD titles (or new releases) is the fault of the studios as they make huge amounts of money licensing them to cable and on-demand. Unfortunately there is very little Netflix can do to change this without spending a lot more than they can probably afford to.

I only really care about the quality/value of the content, not the resolution.
And I still dont get why this needs a disc rather then being a downloadable channel. That makes it much more annoying to use.

Finally got a taste of what my TV is capable of by getting SKY HD. Whilst the TV always did a wonderful job with SD and its only improved with the new HDMI connection, HD channels look amazing.
So while it might not be a deal breaker. Its one of the those luxuries that once sampled you dont want to go back but you have to.
Not interested since I cant think of what I would use the service for. Maybe dexter since I havent seen any of it. Or 24 (ditto) but is that pay per view or monthly subscription?
Has anyone noticed that BBC iplayer has very poor black levels. looks like it has a weird grey filter placed on top of the image. I would have to have two different image settings for games and iplayer.
