Metroid Creator Wants Kid Icarus for Wii

The designer for the original Kid Icarus NES project has expressed a desire to resurrect the franchise for the Wii.

Metroid co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto, who's supervising forthcoming Wii game Metroid: Other M, recently revealed that he would like to see a new version of Kid Icarus. Sakamoto was one of the designers behind the NES original, whose game engine was also the basis behind the first Metroid. If a remake/new chapter were to be made, it would have to make sense on the platform.

I don't know personally about any project underway regarding Kid Icarus, but if so many of those people are interested in it and really want to see it on the Wii they should really speak up. If we can find some sort of way to bring it to the Wii, a way to make the game for the Wii that makes sense, we would happily do so. But just keep in mind it may not be me making the game.

Would you like to see a new Kid Icarus, perhaps in a similar setup to Metroid: Other M? It would certainly be interesting if its engine went on to power a new Kid Icarus game in a role reversal.

Be a great idea really, can't imagin anything would go wrong with it. If it happened, would love to see it stay 2D gameplay, just bump up the graphics and away we go.

Whatever happened to those "mature" Icarus artworks that popped up about a year ago?

And I think it may be hard to sell a full priced 2D platform game nowadays (unless it's Mario).

Maybe this is retros secret game theyre working on?? Kid icarus 1 ran on the first metroid engine, the 2nd kid icarus ran on the metroid 2 engine, now the new kid icarus could run on the metoid prime engine. Id say it would need to be a 3rd person game though

If there's an old Nintendo property which deserves seeing its gameplay evolving like the other series did (Mario, zelda, metroid...) that's Kid Icarus.

I mean even though many of us have still great memories of it, looking at both games today, it hasn't aged particularly well. If Kid Icarus was to be reborn from the ashes, it would need A LOT of new things than just "climb up that level with occasional item".

See how Zelda has come a long way since the NES days ? Well Kid Icarus deserves the same treatment, but without all the intermediate steps that Zelda took over the years. It has to be a LEAP. First take inspiration from Pit and Palutena's designs from Brawl, that would be a good start ^^.

I would, I liked Kid Icarus's Pit in Super Smash Bros. I was wondering why they stopped on that franchise. Was it not selling or something?
When all is bad don't look for a easy way out. Because you wont know what to do once your out

The fact that Pit's even in SSBB was kind of a hint, atleast for me. Why would they add an oldschool character without a more serious reason than just to fill a slot? They have loads of other characters, more popular and new, that could've taken his place.

Would be cool though! I have lots of fun memories from playing the NES games, and with the new graphics available it would probably be a disgustingly pretty game. I'd buy it, mhm! Smilie

I'm not saying a good Kid Icarus game won't be nice. But they really should have tried to release one after Brawl, when there was Pit-mania.

They wanted to release one, remember Factor 5's approach. Sadly the company got closed, so Kid Icarus was scrapped. I think we all agree, that Kid Icarus has to make a great leap to be an outstanding game, like Metroid did with Prime.
But especially this takes time. A lot! So I hope they are on it right now, since Pit was my favourite character on SSBB.
I absoluetly want another Kid Icarus, and one in the style of Factor 5's artworks, which came up on the net some time ago (the main char was a placeholder, for he was ugly, too. *g*).
I find your lack of faith disturbing!
