High Voltage Teases The Conduit Sequel

High Voltage Teases The Conduit Sequel on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

For High Voltage GDC was the place to highlight Tournament of Legends and The Grinder, but a poster suggests a second Wii shooter.

According to G4TV, there was a piece of art with a sole large "2" in the same font as the logo for The Conduit. Whilst strongly hinting at a sequel, the studio denied its existence when questioned but further teased "there's more to come on that!", coupled with sly grins and manic laughter.

In an interview with producer Joshua Olson (via GoNintendo), he mentions how the studio do realise how the characters and environments in the first game were fairly generic/bland in design - something they would address if there were to be a sequel.

I think that's a very fair criticism. Looking at The Conduit, you're not really sure that you're in the world of The Conduit. Like you said, it's kind of generic. You could be anywhere. I think that was driven a lot by our push to make The Conduit in D.C. in realistic-looking environments, we wanted to make the graphics look as real as possible. But on the flipside of that, it tended to make it look a little generic, a bit mundane.

If you're playing Halo, or look at a screenshot, you know you're in Halo. I don't think that's the case with The Conduit. It's a very valid criticism that we took to heart and we're hoping to address in future games.

Everything about the game was so generic and middle ground that even my reaction to this is indifferent. If there is a two i'll get it, if there isnt, dosn't bother me. It was a good game, nothing more, nothing less, just alright.

They should tease good games.

First: never tease with mediocre games. Never use the font or art design again.

Think of a scenario that doesnt involve aliens

Keep intact the original design of the grinder on wii. Otherwise you just lost a customer.

I don't think they're teasing another, just saying that games in future will be more distinct.

Oh they're distinct alright.

I loved the game! Short but sweet! i'm really hoping for another!

Good.
I love these guys.
They arnt fantastic, they arnt AAA by a long shot.
But they *try*. They will surely improve game after game because they are putting effort in.
They have a great engine, and dont only churn out what they think they can get away with. They work hard to push out all the features (online, controlls) that they can.

I really hope they make another, and fix a lot of the mistakes of the first.

If they had any sense they'd leave it well alone and move onto something new. But it seems they're not, on the evidence of a leaked image from GDC which shows a poster with 2 around the Conduit logo.

I've got The Conduit, and think it's a load of rubbish. The graphics barely looked much of a step up from the N64 and the gameplay was generic blandness at it's worst. I hope High Voltage dissapear without a trace, never to produce anything like that again.

Can you tell I didn't like the game? Smilie

Last game had three light rays that were supposed to get me sold.

Yawn.

*wonders if Sony fans said this sort of thing about Killzone2 being announced*

The developer has just admitted to flaws of the original, promising to fix them if they made a sequel and you'd rather them not bother?

Despite it's genericness, The Conduit was a great first attempt. Remember, that before TC, High Voltage had only made shovelware. They did some great things graphics-wise with Conduit but they got too carried away in wanting to compete with the HD consoles. If they put their tech into creating something stylish and unique, they could create an amazing looking game.

Smilie just kill it

Since The Conduit blew chunks, who really cares if there's a sequel?

i didn't even get around to play the first one. It looked sweet though

Its weird just hot much hatred this game is getting.

It got, on average, 69%;

Killzone1 on the PS2 got, on average, 70%;

1% difference folks.

And yet Killzone2 on the ps3 was hyped like mad and, by all accounts, did a heck of a lot better then the first.

What is it about Nintendo fans that relish in negativity :-/

I'm a bit shocked by the response here to be honest. The Conduit was hardly the abortion some people make it out to be. Yes, it was generic. But it wasn't due to lack of effort from the developers.

Hoping they disappear forever? A bit harsh, no? This is a results oriented business, but there's absolutely no doubting whatsoever that the team at High Voltage worked very hard to make a good game for Wii owners. The fact that they tried so hard to emulate other games likely hurt them in the end -- they spent so much time trying to be every other FPS that people liked that they never chiseled out their own identity.

Given some time and some lessons learned, I believe the team can do better. Why would any of you not want them to bother? Worst case scenario is another generic game that you don't have to buy. But the potential for something better is there. How about we give them a chance?

Judging by the minuses on TrepeX's factual post, I'd say two people.

TrepeX lol I chuckled.

I don't understand why you guys rag on this game so much. They are one of the only developers that care about creating high quality games for the Wii and you guys tell them to **** off? I know it is easy to act cynical, but you make yourselves look like spoiled brats.

This is because they made the stupidest looking game which looks like it's only trying to appeal to the Halo wankstain kind of people and making guns look even more ridiculous..

I don't want them to try produce another game because they clearly put very little effort into The Conduit. The only positive I can say for the game is that they made a decent control scheme. The Wii has too many bad games in it's collection already, we really don't need them producing another one.

Judging by The Conduit I'd say they seem pretty incapable of producing a game of any quality. I've seen better on iphone!

Based on ?
Go look at the feature list of the conduit. Specifically what its engine can do, and what online features it has.

Now go and look at just about any other 3rd party game.

Youd be hard pushed to find something comparable.

Just because you dont like the results doesn't mean you can say no effort is put in.
The two are unrelated.

I see no evidence for lack of effort on their part. Just lack of expirence, and possibly lack of imagination.

When you ask him to compare the feature list of this game are you asking him to compare it to another Wii game?

I hope your are.

Wow alot of people wanting blood here Smilie Just because it was bland dosnt mean it was bad, it was like a tidy beige room or vinilla icecream, its not bad it was just no thrills.

New plan, IF they dont fuck up the Wii's version of The Grinder and keep it a FPS, I will buy Conduit 2 at the very least as a thank you.

Ok I did criticise it without playing it. But I criticised the look of it. Probably a lot of people did the same. Gaming is a visual experience. Many try to ciritcise those who place too much emphasis on visuals but you have to sit infront of a tv for 10 hrs staring at it.

Funny enough I dont know a single thing about killzone so I youtubed it. Killzone 2 trailer came up. This is where FPS games and most genres are trying to go. It has hollywood written all over it. It looks epic. There are a lot of subtleties to it. Shaky cam work. Facial expressions. Smoke particle effects and so on. The conduit on the other hand doesnt grab you the same way. So give me £30 and send me into Game I would pick up killzone over the conduit any day

I dot know why but the picture from the conduit at the top of the article really offends me. Thats how bad the art direction is.
