The brain behind Mario, Zelda, Pikmin and many other Nintendo favourites picked up his BAFTA Fellowship award last night.

Shigeru Miyamoto, father of many of Nintendo's beloved characters and franchises, now joins designers Nolan Bushnell and Will Wright into the renowned Fellowship, the highest award one can receive for outstanding contribution to the industry.

Miyamoto-san has helped craft a large catalogue of games in over 30 years at Nintendo, but couldn't have done it without the support of many talented artists, coders, musician and a wad of cash from the big bosses at the top - and so last night gave credit to his colleagues.

It is a great honour to receive this award here in London in front of so many fellow developers and industry professionals.

When I started my career at Nintendo there was no such thing as video game making at the company. My only wish was to make something to surprise or entertain many people. I was lucky enough to get the job making video games from the dawn of the industry.

I am humbled because I cannot develop a video game by myself. Therefore I am receiving the award on behalf of everyone who has worked with me over the past 30 years, and I'd like to thank every single person for their hard work.

Deserves the award, and comes off sounding like a very modest chap, also.
